Update: This update spans the editing events between November 2023 to January 2024.

In late November two months ago, I realized that redirected pages could have category tags. Prior, part of the consolidation of pages and categories occured due to the redirected pages 'disappearing'. (This is in part the result from the page being blanked of everything except for the redirect function) With the added tags, the pages reappear, so I've reinstated previously consolidated categories. I've been doing this into December and into January. Adding the tags was a way to 'backstitch' pages together to help ease navigation and search engine hits. Also, I had information/link header tables to article pages and categories for intrawiki navigation purposes.

On November 20th, 2023 FANDOM added the "Thanks" feature to wikis as part of admin toggle controls. I enabled this feature. It allows users to thank other users for the edits they made. How it works is by visiting the edit history, and clicking the "thank" link next to the edit.

On January 14 and 16, I began adding small descriptions to locations. On the 16th I realized that some of the locations had enough data and links to support their own pages and categories, so I began transferring the material (back) to their own pages that were previously consolidated.

As part of wiki management guidelines set by FANDOM for admin to, article pages are encouraged to have at least 500 words or bits or something. Each page should be 'weighed', as in can it stand on its own, are is it part of something else. So, following that, I consolidated many small pages. This resulted in 'straggler' pages where it had enough content, however it was the only page left in the category not consolidated, so to keep everything together, I moved some (not all) larger pages too. This created a problem where some pages got too long (something that should be avoided if possible as it slows page loading times), and to fix that I incorporated collapsible tables. I wasn't too fond of hiding content on a page like that as I'm aware that readers may accidentally skip over it. On January 16 and 17 I decided to move some data (that had taken up significant amount of space) back to their own pages while simultaneously leaving a link to the page in its place.

One of the more time consuming things that I'll have to do/try to do is filter through page edit histories to find the edits that belong to the individual pages that were consolidated and now subsequently reinstated many months later and to transfer/merge those back to their original pages. Well see how that goes.

Update: For around the past half month since October 23rd, 2023 I have been updating the aesthetic format of tables used extensively throughout this Fandom wiki.

To increase uniformity, I added a style width modifier. Tables default to only being as wide as the amount of text enclosed in it. The modifier is to make sure that the table stretches the entire width of the page 100% relative to the page size itself.

Example:

Header
Data
Header
Data

I've also very recently within the past 24 hours and still ongoing, have exchanged the class "wikitable" with "article-table" for certain tables. The change is for pure aesthetic reasons, as "article-table" as a sleeker, more blended look for tables that primarily hold paragraphs of text-data.

Example:

Header
Data
Header
Data

Another change is with the article-table class being implemented in that it helps me reduce the tabber function. Implementation of the tabber is a nice look for extremely long pages, however, I mildly began to over-tabber the site to make it a uniform change throughout, even though it wasn't really necessary on smaller pages. Good news is that I hadn't fully completely that tabber process before I began the class replacement, so it'll be less work to revise. Also, for these types of really long pages with many sections, for ease of navigation, the tabber was exchanged for the collapsible table feature.

Example

Header 1
Data 1

Header 2
Data 2

Tables
Header 1
Data 1
Header 2
Data 2

Another collapsable variation implemented is seen just below this sentence. It's mostly placed on main / frequent recurring character pages. While some of those page are long, they are not too long to need use of the method above - which would make the character pages look very barren and empty.

Example:

Header
Data

Table style background and border colors have also been updated and added, as well as the addition of table captions. These changes werealso applied to the template charts.

The source code format of tables and article pages have also been spaced out for a cleaner, easier understanding. I had originally tightened everything together, removing spaces (which with space or without spaces doesn't have an affect on the table except for on the data line, where it may cause the text to be larger or smaller, and at the bottom show extra empty space that is unnecessary).

Example:

Header

Data

Header
Data

During December 2022, I followed through with consolidating around 600 pages (50%), reducing the wiki page count from around 1,200 total pages to 600. These pages were not deleted. They were instead moved/blended into other existing pages. The data was manually copied and transferred as well as the page edit histories, leaving behind a redirect link. This was done to streamline the wiki to make the data more readily accessible at first glance (to have it all in one place, not forcing readers to have to navigate through several pages for little tidbits). Before the consolidation, the wiki suffered from too many individual pages and categories. Majority of these pages had very little data on them to support itself, many being a subtopic of another. Instead of relying on categories, for example I took all of the individual location pages relating to Africa and move it onto the Africa page as its own section. Major categories I consolidated were locations by continent/city, sanctuaries, the Old City Sanctuary by upper and lower level, the Sanctuary Network, one-shot characters, mentioned-only characters, historical figures, abnormals, weapons, events, Hollow Earth, and some other topics.

A lot of changes have been made over the past several months of this year. Around late April into the beginning of May and into July 2023 I had aesthetically changed the coloration and look of the wikitables, reversing the header background being black and the data paragraph background being colored. Recently I deduced the coloration in wiki charts to primarily only have a background color in the source column. This was done to make it easier to read when switching between dark and light mode.

In May 2023 I updated the wiki navigation bar.

At the end of July 2023 I imported javascript functions and updated the wiki homepage. I added in the main column the calendar date at the top along with a personalized greeting, a seasons section, and an explore section, as well as added more links. In the right column, I added a discussions module, as well as a social media section (adding both a Twitter and Facebook module), and edited the wiki statistics table to represent the wiki theme colors. Around this time I also categorized blog posts by creating blog listing pages.

In early August 2023 added a bunch of info and images for vehicles found/used in the show.

A resulting issue from consolidation was that some pages became very long. I am happy to announce that I found a (partial) solution to this. Over the past three days on September 25th, 26th, and 27th I have been implementing the tabber function throughout the wiki. It creates horizontal tabs were a user can select which i.e. paragraph topics they want to read (for example on transcript pages the tabs are by Act One, Act Two etc.). Unfortunately, the tabber only works on desktop, which means that for mobile users they'll still see a very long page.

Changes being made are:

  • Aesthetic changes to pages to make them look better, for both desktop and mobile appearance.
    • Old navigation bars have been replaced with FANDOM's new navbox format.
    • Old infocard templates have been replaced with FANDOM's new portable infobox format.
    • Tables are being implemented to display large amounts of information more concisely.
    • Transcript pages are being reformatted to better distinguish dialogue from action descriptions.
  • Tabs on pages are being simplified and numbers reduced.
  • Added more substance to episode and character pages.
    • Adding background info under 'Notes Section'.
    • Adding photos / videos to 'Gallery'.
  • Maintaining redirects and fixing broken links.
  • Removal of fluff pages, including pages not related to the show.
  • One-shot actors instead now have a reference link to their IMDb instead of their own page.
  • Geographic location pages have now been category "tree'd" with links to their Wikipedia pages.
  • Category pages are being trimmed down. Pages in weapons and vehicle categories will be tabled.

Note: If anyone is randomly looking through edit histories of pages, I apologize for how crazy it looks with several pages being moved, renamed, redirected, edited, deleted, restored, re-deleted, etc. I'm always still learning, experimenting, and figuring things out, seeing what works and what doesn't, what looks good, etc. Fear not, while a page may disappear, I can guarantee to you that the info that was on that page is still preserved and displayed in some way, shape or form on this site.

Any and all suggestions and ideas are welcome. :) If you'd like, you can comment down below on how this site can be better.

I've been maintaining this wiki for the past almost year now, cleaning up redirects, fixing links, etc., added more substance to episode and character pages, plus making minor aesthetic changes to pages to make them look better. Large changes being made are:

Page number reductions:

  • Removal of fluff pages, including pages not related to the show.
  • One-shot actor pages will instead now have a reference link to their IMDb instead of their own page.
  • Geographic location pages are now instead links to their Wikipedia page rather than their own page.
Tables are being implemented to display large amounts of information more concisely.
Category pages are being trimmed down. Pages in weapons and vehicle categories will be tabled. Certain minor character pages will also be tabled with their pages redirected.
Tabs on pages are being simplified and numbers reduced (I had 'over-tabbed' the site earlier.)

Update: I found a nice solution to some of my major issues. It's tabling. Tables solve my difficulty of displaying information, especially for tiny characters.

Also, I found with the new software that category pages now show up in the search bar. Before, I had been experimenting with blending article pages onto category pages by transferring over the info and redirecting the article page to the category page. What I had found then was all that did was 1) increase the total over number of pages on the site, and 2) while the category page was created, it wasn't treated the same as an article page and was practically nonexistent while you searched, making it almost completely pointless unless you specifically went into the category area. So, I had to revert everything. (This was also part of the reason why my earlier page reduction plan in July had failed.) While category pages 'work' now, I decided to not retry that.

Note: As an obvious head-up, if anyone is randomly looking through edit histories of pages and this site, I just want to apologize for how crazy it looks with several pages being moved, renamed, redirected, edited, deleted, restored, re-deleted, etc. I'm always still learning, experimenting, and figuring things out, seeing what works and what doesn't, what looks good, etc. Fear not, while a page may disappear, I can guarantee to you that the info that was on that page is still preserved and displayed in some way, shape or form on this site. Case in point, I'm moving historical figures 'characters' back to that article page, now displayed in a table rather than as individual pages (again) gathered and listed in the Historical Figures category page.

Update: I decide to revisit this 'failed' project of putting smaller character pages together. My initial issue of why I had reverted what I did earlier was because I had gone way too far with it back then, practically involving almost every one-off minor character as well as a lot of non-character pages and stuffing them all onto several main pages rather than (creating) their own article group subpages for them.

This time, I'm sticking pretty strictly to characters that are part of defined groups, such as the metahuman fighters, trust-fund vampires, Project Montana / Super abnormal project, etc. These groups are usually full of one-shot characters who may or may not be named. More defined characters will still continue to have their own individual character pages (simply being linked on their group page) (such as Chad Spencer), while the less-defined characters (like Female Vampire) will have all of their minimal info completely transferred over to their group page and their individual page deleted.

I'm also still thinking about putting the character info of non-group related minor one-shot characters (whether mentioned-only or seen briefly) as a character subsection in an episode's "background, notes, and trivia" section rather than having an actual page for them that needs tending to, alongside a picture of them (if portrayed) in the gallery.

Overall, this just makes it easier on me as their are still some very minor brief characters out there that need pages created for them, but I didn't feel like having to make an entire page from scratch (where most of the text is simply formatting the page rather than actual content) for just a single sentence about the person and maybe a picture.

Also on a similar note, as far as minor pages go, I'm going to tidy up the categories of both weapons as well as vehicles. Those topics will each be combined onto their own individual topic pages and each item will be placed / listed in a table rather than as its own descriptive section like regular article pages.

Update to Site Cleanse

In my effort to reduce the overall number of pages on this site, after I cut all of the clearly obvious unnecessary pages I had the idea to take a lot of very small pages and bunched them together with others of similar theme, transferring the info from it's own page onto it's 'parent page'. Such as like taking all of the i.e. Cabal related stuff (characters and events etc) and putting it all on the single Cabal page and putting all the related Old City stuff together, etc.

After deleting and transferring the content on something like 150 'good' pages, along the way I ran into some issues and came to the realization that what I was doing wasn't working (mostly because it meant that I had to go around and edit tons of links, turning the link source code into something that wasn't completely user friendly, looking something like: [Vampire#Afina|Afina] rather than just simply [Afina]), so I spent the last few days restoring all of the 'good' stuff back to their own pages, especially character pages.

Instead of my initial plan, I decided to just modify the 'parent' pages to have bullet points with links to the individual pages to connect it all that way.

Yes, I admit had I made a mistake. I realized it and then made every effort to correct it. After I finished restoration earlier tonight, I then made a lot of needed character and location pages that hadn't been created yet. So, that is what I am currently working on at the moment.

May 8th, 2020[]

I've been maintaining this wiki for the past few months, cleaning up re-directs, fixing links, etc., added more substance to episode and character pages, plus making minor aesthetic changes to pages to make them look better. In my efforts, I have grown tired of how exhausting it is because of the sheer SIZE of how many pages to go through.

1,010 is quite honestly ridiculous. I have literally been going through several HUNDREDS of pages on this wiki and while its admirable that contributors want to link and have a page for EVERYTHING, it's not necessary. A lot of small one-shot characters do not have enough information to warrant their own separate page. Every single actor who has ever played a character on this show does not need its own page as a simple reference link to their IMDb will suffice.

My plan is to reduce down the mass bulk of unneeded pages to their "essential core". It'll function much like an index system, such as putting all of the Cabal related stuff together, and other tiny pages will be attached as an addendum page to the corresponding episode.

A good example of what I'm talking about is making things look like i.e. "The Morrigan". All 3 sisters are featured on a single page. Each sister herself does not have enough info to warrant an individual page. (Each actress does have their own page though, which is unnecessary).

I found that there are single pages for every single "warrior" fighter the Cabal created which can all be featured on one page. I also found that all of the one-off characters that barely had a line in Episode 2x05 - "Pavor Nocturnus" also have their own pages. They can all be added to single "Guardian's Timeline" page attached to the episode.

There's also separate pages for Sanctuaries that are only just mentioned or listed and not even shown when they can all just be on the single Sanctuary Network page.

Some of the things that I found to be nonsensical on this site are pages for locations. There are literal individual pages for continents, countries, and oceans etc. Each page basically just has a single basic sentence on it saying that it holds a Sanctuary. These pages are truly not needed.

Sorry for the rant, but I wanted to just give a heads up to what I'm in the process of doing. I am streamlining this site to be more navigable and concise. I am literally one of the first people who loves to add as much detail that I can to a page, but even I realize that too much extra 'fluff' that has no major bearing on this show needs to go.
