Superabnormals 01

The first set of super abnormals. From left to right: unnamed Asian female, unnamed black male, unnamed Asian male, Ashley Magnus, Martin Wood, and Female Super Abnormal.

The super abnormal project was created by the Cabal to ensure human domination of the planet. The goal of the program included the complete destruction of the Sanctuary Network (collecting its research data and either collecting or killing it's inhabitants) before moving on to the rest of the world; cleansing the Earth of abnormal threats.

History[]

Season 1[]

Episode 1x12 - "Revelations, Part I":
The set-up
After the Cabal found, thawed, and resuscitated a frozen Gregory Magnus in mid-late 2007 [1], they were able to gain knowledge from him about a vial of a genetically powerful substance called source blood.

Wanting to create an indestructible army, they created a situation with the Lazarus virus in early 2009 to force the Sanctuary Network into retrieving the vial from Bhalasaam.
Episode 1x13 - "Revelations, Part II":
Phase One

For the Cabal's plan to ultimately work, they depended heavily on their linchpin who was Ashley Magnus. After capturing her at their facility just outside of New City, they activated her dormant teleportation genes and dosed her with mind control drugs. When Ashley was rescued by her father John Druitt, the drugs took latent affect, leading her to steal the vial of source blood from her mother Helen Magnus at the Old City Sanctuary and to take it straight to Dana Whitcomb on Easter Island.

Season 2[]

Episode 2x01 - "End of Nights, Part I": The majority of Phase One consisted of the Cabal continually testing their regimen of mind-control drugs, seeing how much they could mentally push Ashley Magnus into doing tasks for them. After six weeks of trials, the final task that outwardly proved the 'success' of the drugs was sending Ashley to Montreal to steal classified files on Project Montana.
Phase Two
Due to apparent success of Phase One, Dana Whitcomb ordered the Cabal Scientist to begin on Phase Two which focused on creating their very first super-soldier; moving the timetable for the project up a month ahead of schedule, much to the hesitance of the Scientist.

Ashley was chosen as the prime candidate for the experiment as she is the only offspring of two source blood altered abnormals. She was born from a mother who still has remnants of source blood in her system [2] - of which could have possibly transferred to her while in utero [3].

Because of this innate physiology, further exposure to the blood via injection of a four-vial series of a modified serum was accepted by Ashley's body, allowing the genetic transformation to occur without any rejection and even enabled it to mutate her cells faster than the Cabal Scientist had initially expected.
Phase Three

While Ashley was undergoing Phase Two of this project, the Cabal had sent out several retrieval teams to fetch the six Montana Test subjects found living around the globe. By now, the Sanctuary team had caught on to their plans and were able to prevent the capture of one of their targets.

Once Ashley completed Phase Two, Phase Three began by having the Cabal Scientist turn the remaining five "assets" currently in their custody into super-soldiers just like Ashley. They were injected with the same mind-control drug regimen Ashley was on and underwent genetic manipulation where copies of all of Ashley's genes that contained her abilities were transferred to them. This was possible as the Montana Subjects were genetic 'blank slates' that could be easily overridden.

Episode 2x02 - "End of Nights, Part II":
First mission
The first mission for this first batch of super-soldiers was to assault and destroy the Sanctuary Network.[4]
2x02 Sanctuary IMDb 9
Their objectives and movements were over-seen and directed by Dana Whitcomb and the Cabal Tech. Attacks on Sanctuaries occurred at a steady interval until the pattern was broken just before the very last attack, with 23 hours having gone by without one (this delay was presumably due to the time needed for the super-soldiers to heal from the massive damage they sustained caused by the fire elemental).

After their first target (the Tokyo Sanctuary) was taken out, the rest of the Sanctuary Network upgraded their security systems and EM shields. After a failed attempt on the London Sanctuary, the super abnormals tried to take out their last target, the Old City Sanctuary. The defense team consisted of Helen Magnus, John Druitt, Nikola Tesla, Will Zimmerman, Bigfoot, Henry Foss, and Kate Freelander.

Armed with the new and now lethal source blood weapon created by Tesla, Magnus managed to kill three of the super-soldiers:
  1. Martin Wood - in Magnus's study.
  2. Unnamed Asian female super abnormal - in lower level.
  3. Unnamed Asian male super abnormal - in main lab.

The fourth super-soldier (the unnamed black male super abnormal) was killed in a lower level when he teleported just after the EM shield was reactivated; turning him into a dissipating cloud of burning organic particles.

At the very end of the attack raid, Ashley Magnus finally gained back some temporary semblance of mental control and sacrificed herself (teleporting while the EM shield was active) to kill the last remaining super-soldier that was intent on killing her mother.

Episode 2x03 - "Eulogy": One week post-attacks, the charred remains of that fifth super-soldier (the Female Super Abnormal) were found in a lower level wall of the Old City Sanctuary during Helen Magnus's search for Ashley Magnus. Ashley's body was never found.[5]
Fallout

Due to the failure of this project to completely take out the Sanctuary Network, it led to the downfall and eradication of the Cabal organization worldwide. John Druitt and Nikola Tesla hunted down and killed off members as retribution for the attacks while Helen Magnus looked for her daughter. On the eighth day after the failed end of the first mission, Dana Whitcomb was found by Druitt and killed as a result of Whitcomb taking Ashley away from both of her parents in one of the most unnatural ways possible.
