A spiderbot is a mechanical spider technology created by Praxis. It's function is memory retrieval (brain copying / uploading consciousness into a digital database).
History[]
It was seen used by two tabors and the Old City Sanctuary team (also involving Nikola Tesla, John Druitt, and Adam Worth). It was last seen in Episode 4x09 - "Chimera" where it was in held quarantine at the Old City Sanctuary, however its latest status as of Episode 4x13 - "Sanctuary for None, Part II" is unknown following the destruction of the facility; it may have been destroyed or was secretly moved off-screen at some point beforehand to the Underground Sanctuary.
Season 3[]
Episode 3x02 - "Firewall": Adam Worth[1] sent two tabors with a spiderbot to invade the Old City Sanctuary in order to access Will Zimmerman's memories about his time in the avatar chamber spent with Gregory Magnus; hoping to presumably get information of the holographic map that Gregory gave to his daughter Helen Magnus. While the tabors fail in their quest, the Sanctuary team still uses the device to access Will's hidden memories. | |
Episode 3x10 - "The Hollow Men": Once the Sanctuary team made it past the gateway into Hollow Earth, an earth tremor destroyed their tracking beacon repeater. Fearing something had gone wrong, both Nikola Tesla and John Druitt agree to attach the spiderbot to Adam Worth's brain in order to attain coordinates so Druitt could teleport them into Hollow Earth. Because of this, it downloaded and stored a copy of Worth's consciousness. |
Season 4[]
Episode 4x09 - "Chimera": When Nikola Tesla went to unpatch the spiderbot from the Old City Sanctuary's computer system, he found that a Praxian sentient organic nanite had transferred itself into the system. Tesla then secretly created a hidden computer sector, quarantining the nanite behind a veritable Fort Knox of firewalls. This quarantine held until over a year later when the Specified Counter-Insurgency Unit became an issue and Helen Magnus had Henry Foss transfer sensitive data from their servers to a secure offsite cloud. This resulted in a nanosecond of weakened security, allowing the nanite a chance to escape in which it began to wreak havoc about the facility. In order to stop it, Magnus and Tesla decide to 'speak its language' by 'going digital'. They did this by patching themselves into the computer system via cobbling together an adaptor system attached to the spiderbot in an effort to dually digitally upload their consciousnesses into the system's RAM. While inside the system, not only did they came across the downloaded consciousness of Worth who quickly became a menace, they also found that the spiderbot possessed a lot more praxian information than they initially thought; Magnus commented on it being analogous to finding the lost Library of Alexandria while Tesla believed they may have potentially saved the destroyed civilization's technological infrastructure. Eventually, they re-quarantined the nanite, moving it to an isodrive in hopes to pull the remnant of Praxian information from it (to act as a 'seed' in the rebuilding of Praxis), and left the spiderbot to roam around freely in its secured little container, A.I. Worth's new home. |
