The Mayans were a Mesoamerican civilization that ceased to exist centuries ago, although its people actually survived and form large parts of the current population of Mesoamerica. At its peak, it was one of the most densely populated and culturally dynamic societies in the world.

History

Unknown to most, the kings of the Mayans were actually an old race of abnormals, possessing a longevity very similar to that of Helen Magnus.

Season 2

Episode 2x05 - "Pavor Nocturnus": The elixir and the Guardian Thanks to their abnormality, the kings of the Mayans lived for many centuries, and finally wanted to bring an end to this existence: they wanted to live and die like humans, and created a serum that should make just that possible. They were successful, but the elixir had the unforeseen side effect of transforming the majority of the population into ravenous, "zombie"-like abnormal beasts. In the following time, much of the Mayan civilization was consumed by the infected, and once they had all died, the surviving Mayans entrusted a powerful time-travelling abnormal called the Guardian with the elixir.
