MAGNUS:
[voice over] Previously on Sanctuary...
SCENE FROM Episode 0x03 - "Webisode 3"
DRUITT:
I promise to make you happy, Helen, for all eternity.
SCENE FROM Episode 1x01 - "Sanctuary for All, Part I"
MAGNUS:
John, let me help you before you make things worse.
DRUITT:
And how is that possible? I've already murdered, what, seven whores?
SCENE FROM Episode 1x12 - "Revelations, Part I"
WILL:
It's amazing to me. Sherlock Holmes. Jack the Ripper... The fact that you two can sit here together, and--
WATSON:
Time is a great healer, redemption that requires a little more.
SCENE FROM Episode 1x02 - "Sanctuary for All, Part II"
MAGNUS:
The shield is working; if it's him we're safe.
SCENE FROM Episode 1x02 - "Sanctuary for All, Part II"
HENRY:
It's a modified EM bubble. It protects outside interference from jamming devices.
DRUITT:
Is that what she told you it was for?
HENRY:
What is it for?
DRUITT:
Me.
SCENE FROM Episode 1x07 - "The Five"
DRUITT:
Your mother did indeed leave me close to death.

SCENES FROM Episode 2x01 - "End of Nights, Part I"
MAGNUS:
Tesla may have shocked you into your senses, John, but nobody becomes what you were without a predilection for killing. No doubt you'd return to your murderous habits one day.
DRUITT:
I wasn't asking you out on a date.

INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB - DAY
[The main lab is being used as triage unit. Magnus is bandaging a woman's arm.]
MAGNUS:
[in Zulu] Are you in pain anywhere else?
WOMAN:
[in Zulu] (shakes head no) Thank you.
[Magnus finishes and turns to see Kate treating another person.]
MAGNUS:
You're doing a great job.
KATE:
Um, how do you say "It's going to be all going to be okay" in Zulu?
MAGNUS:
[speaks in Zulu to a patient]
KATE:
What she said.
MAGNUS:
That's right, keep it light. They're already panicked enough without picking up on our fears. Remember, they're empaths. They feel what you're feeling.
[Magnus takes off her gloves and turns away and stops when she sees Will.]
MAGNUS:
Neomycin?
WILL:
Yeah, a couple of the intakes have second-degree burns. Did you contact the Mumbai Sanctuary?
MAGNUS:
I told them the empaths were safe. Their ship, on the other hand...
[Magnus continues walking over to where Henry has set up. He has linked into the computer system.]
MAGNUS:
How's it looking?
[Henry has a display of map on main labs screen.]
HENRY:
Yeah, not so good; Celine Dion should start singing about now. Sorry, disaster joke; not funny.
MAGNUS:
Ah what the hell is keeping him?
[Druitt, coughing, teleports in with two more survivors.]
DRUITT:
The fire's spreading, smoke everywhere!
[Magnus takes the woman from Druitt as Will puts out the fire on Druitt's coat.]
MAGNUS:
[in Zulu] Don't worry. You're safe here.
[Kate guides both the survivors away from Druitt.]
KATE:
It's okay, just come with me.
[Magnus turns to Druitt.]
MAGNUS:
The rest of the crew?
DRUITT:
Dead.
[A man rushes up to Magnus.]
MAN:
[in Zulu] Musa! She's still on board!
MAGNUS:
One of the empaths is still missing. Did you check the sleeping quarters?
DRUITT:
Without detailed knowledge of the vessel arrivals can be tricky. I need a known destination...
MAGNUS:
Yes.
DRUITT:
On my way.
MAGNUS:
Just...
[Druitt teleports away. Magnus sighs.]
MAGNUS:
...be careful. Henry, any idea what happened to the ship?
HENRY:
Best guess? About two hours out of Maputo, the boiler exploded, tore a hole in the hull.
MAGNUS:
Right. I may need your help bandaging the new intakes.
HENRY:
Aw, yeah, come on, Doc. You know about me and blood.
MAGNUS:
All right, get the guest quarters ready. We're going to need a few extra beds tonight.
HENRY:
Check.
[Druitt teleports in with a woman in his arms and almost colliding with Henry.]
DRUITT:
Metal fragment in her abdomen!
[Magnus checks the woman's pulse as Druitt holds her.]
MAGNUS:
Dear God, her pulse is weak. Get her to the O.R. I need to operate immediately.
[Will brings a gurney over and Druitt places the woman on it. Magnus helps Will guides the gurney to go out of the lab. Turning back to Druitt she sees him staring at his bloody hand.]
MAGNUS:
John?
[Druitt seems to be lost in thought and struggles to answer her.]
DRUITT:
Quite a day.
[Magnus studies Druitt as he seems a bit off.]
MAGNUS:
Thank you for answering my call.
DRUITT:
It seems business is never finished with us despite our losses.
MAGNUS:
I'm just saying, I couldn't have done it without you.
DRUITT:
Well, all hands on deck, hmm? Besides, I've missed this place. You know, vengeful killing sprees are good for the soul, but... there's no place like home.
MAGNUS:
Quite a lot of teleportation for one day, you feeling any worse for wear?
DRUITT:
Right as rain; in fact, I've... I've never felt better.
[Magnus turns to go to her patient waiting for her in the OR. Druitt stares menacingly at two survivors who are looking at him in alarm.]
Title sequence[]
Act I[]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - OPERATING ROOM
[Magnus is operating on woman with Bigfoot assisting.]
MAGNUS:
I can't imagine what would have happened to them had John not answered my call. There was no rescue craft close enough to have saved any of them.
[Magnus removes a piece of shrapnel.]
BIGFOOT:
Lucky.
MAGNUS:
That she is. One more centimeter to the right and this would have lacerated her descending aorta.
[Alarm rings on the medical equipment]
BIGFOOT:
Cardiac arrest.
MAGNUS:
Dammit! Get the cart! One milligram epinephrine.
[Bigfoot hands Magnus a syringe.]
BIGFOOT:
One milligram epinephrine.
[A normal pulse is heard from the medical system.]
BIGFOOT:
Alive.
MAGNUS:
For now; she's not out of the woods yet. Let's close her up.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HENRY'S WORKSPACE - DAY
[Henry is working at his table as Will enters.]
WILL:
Hey, man, Kate needs your help with the intake database.
HENRY:
Can't you do it?
WILL:
I tried but it looks like the system's fried.
[Henry swats Will's hand away from picking up a part off Henry's table.]
HENRY:
Hey, I'm a little busy here.
WILL:
Whoa... Look, tell that to Mumbai. They're screaming for our rescue and recovery logs ASAP.
[Henry holds up a new weapon he has been working on.]
HENRY:
Molly's primed for a charge. I can't exactly bail on her right now.
WILL:
Molly?
HENRY:
Modified O-wave Linear Expeller.
WILL:
Doesn't that acronym spell "mole"?
HENRY:
Molly's hotter.
WILL:
Dude, it's a weapon, not a woman.
HENRY:
Hey, clearly you and I have not dated the same girls.
WILL:
Okay, look, are you going to do this thing because...
HENRY:
Okay, fine. Yes, fine. You're going to have to take over for me, okay? Molly needs to be charged and assembled before the seams on the pulse magazine degrade.
WILL:
Whoa, you just made that up, right? That means nothing to me.
[Henry demonstrates as he gives the instructions.]
HENRY:
All you got to do is open the stock, remove the power core and charge it, then you re-insert the power core back into the stock, you seal the magazine, vent the shaft, secure the laser sight and presto.
WILL:
You realize you're talking to a guy who flunked Allen key, right?
[Henry pats Will on back.]
HENRY:
Relax. You'll be fine.
[Henry stops in door and turns back.]
HENRY:
Oh, don't overcharge the power core. You'll blow up the lab.
WILL:
Okay, so no pressure, then.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY
[One of the survivors Druitt was staring at is wandering through the hallway. She turns a corner and sees Druitt. She bows her head as she speaks to him.]
WOMAN:
[in Zulu] Thank you for saving all of us. You are a saint.
[She continues to walk to Druitt as she speaks. Druitt hesitates but then replies.]
DRUITT:
You're welcome.
[Druitt turns to leave. She grabs his hand.]
WOMAN:
[in Zulu] Why are you so afraid?
[Druitt removes her hand.]
DRUITT:
I feel nothing for you people. It was a favor, a task, nothing more.
[Druitt brushes past her to continue down the hall.]
WOMAN:
[in Zulu] This will never be your home while you let this darkness control you.
[Druitt stops, turning back slowly toward her.]
DRUITT:
What did you say?
[He glares at the woman then advances toward her.]
WOMAN:
[in Zulu] Please... don't. I never meant to say anything.
DRUITT:
I urge you not to trifle with me.
[Druitt grabs her arm and she whimpers in fright.]
DRUITT:
You should have said nothing. You should have left well enough alone. Why did you come to me?
[The woman pleas softly to Druitt but he ignores her and stabs her with his knife.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - OPERATING ROOM
[Magnus has finished the operation and is monitoring her patient talking to Bigfoot on the opposite side of the gurney.]
MAGNUS:
It's up to her now. We've done all we can.
BIGFOOT:
Recovery in the infirmary?
MAGNUS:
I want her monitored until she's stable. Today could have gone a lot worse than it did.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - HALLWAY
[Will is walking down the hallway as a man rushes up to him.]
MAN:
[in Zulu] There you are. Please, something's wrong.
WILL:
Oh, I'm sorry. I don't speak Zulu.
MAN:
[in Zulu] Nozipho... lost. Not here. Not here.
WILL:
Nozipho, one of the other empaths, she's like you.
MAN:
[in Zulu] Not here.
[The man is motioning to his head with his hands.]
WILL:
You can't... you can't...
MAN:
[in Zulu] Lost.
WILL:
You can't see her. Is she lost in the Sanctuary?
MAN:
[in Zulu] She is...
WILL:
Oh, God, I'm so sorry, I don't understand. You can't... you can't... You can't... You can't sense her anymore.
MAN:
[in Zulu] Trouble.
WILL:
Oh, okay. Come with me.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY - DAY
[Kate is walking beside Henry while he fiddles with her laptop computer.]
HENRY:
What did you do to this thing?
KATE:
Oh, come on so now it's my fault?
HENRY:
Well, I'm just saying, you see this?
KATE:
Who designed the database?
HENRY:
It is not the database.
KATE:
Yeah, says you.
HENRY:
Are you... Who does this?
KATE:
What?
HENRY:
Okay, what is this?
KATE:
I use my computer.
[Henry removes a CD out of the drive.]
HENRY:
What is this? Ah, the Craven Throng?
KATE:
It's experimental garage acid. Oh, come on, you're telling me that my music screwed up your database?
HENRY:
Your freeware media player created a conflict in the com port access base.
KATE:
Henry why is it whenever you talk all I hear is "blah, blah, blah, blah?"
HENRY:
I did not create this to be your personal stereo system, okay? I...
[Henry sees something under one of the doors.]
HENRY:
Is that...
[Henry opens door]
HENRY:
Ah! Oh...
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY - DAY
[Magnus is kneeling as Henry and Kate stand behind her in the hallway.]
MAGNUS:
Blood's fresh, 20 maybe 30 minutes. Her throat's been cut. Henry, get the security camera footage. I want to know everyone who was on this floor in the last half hour.
HENRY:
All right, you got it.
[Henry leaves.]
MAGNUS:
Kate, gather our guests.
KATE:
I don't get it. These guys are so gentle. They're no threat to anybody.
MAGNUS:
Exactly, they're the perfect target.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY - DAY
[Druitt is standing in front of the large window staring out. He hears Magnus cocking a gun behind him.]
DRUITT:
Beautiful...isn't it?
MAGNUS:
Turn around very slowly. How long?
[Druitt turns slowly.]
DRUITT:
Long enough, habits are...hard to break.
MAGNUS:
Perhaps you're not trying hard enough.
DRUITT:
I am who I am! It's high time you did something about it.
[Druitt throws a knife into the wall beside Magnus and rushes off down the hallway. Magnus's shot is too late and she runs after him.]
MAGNUS:
John!
[She takes another shot at him when he refuses to stop. The shot misses wide. She starts running after him again. Druitt clothes lines her as she comes down the hallway; knocking her down and the gun flying out of her reach. Druitt kicks her in the abdomen. Druitt picks up the gun and kneels by her. She holds her abdomen as she pushes herself to a sitting position with her free hand.]
DRUITT:
I take it the EM shields are up.
[Druitt stands. Magnus nods in the affirmative. Druitt pulls a switchblade out of his inner pocket and activates the blade.
DRUITT:
Indeed.
[Magnus stares up at him as his moves toward her. He withdraws as he hears Kate's voice.]
KATE:
Doc! I heard shots.
MAGNUS:
Kate!
[Druitt punches Kate in the faces as she rounds the corner. MOLLY flies from Kate's grasp and lands near Magnus. Druitt turns back to Magnus who has aimed MOLLY at him. Druitt walks toward Magnus and she fires. The electric pulse makes him hesitate but then he again walks toward Magnus and she fires again. Druitt drops to his knees as Magnus rises to hers but he half thrusts the knife towards her and she is forced to shoot him again. Druitt collapses and Magnus leans over him to check his pulse. Kate has regained her feet and stands over them.]
KATE:
Is he...
[Magnus slowly looks up with great sorrow.]
MAGNUS:
He's dead.
Act II[]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - OPERATING ROOM
[Magnus is standing beside Druitt with her hand to his cheek. Kate is preparing the defibrillator paddles for her.]
KATE:
Tell me again why you're trying to bring a homicidal maniac back to life.
MAGNUS:
It's more about compulsion than murder. I set him up for this, letting him loose on the Cabal. He knew I'd find out about his activities sooner or later. He wanted me to kill him.
KATE:
No offense but you guys got a seriously messed up relationship.
MAGNUS:
It's complicated. Charge the defibrillator. Second button there to 200 and clear!
[Magnus pushes the button to send the shock to Druitt's heart.]
KATE:
Nothing.
MAGNUS:
300.
[Kate resets the defibrillator.]
MAGNUS:
Clear!
[Kate shakes her head no.]
MAGNUS:
360.
[Kate once again resets.]
MAGNUS:
Clear!
[Sparks fly from all over the room.]
KATE:
Oh, what the hell?
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY
[Henry, who is walking down a hallway. notices the lights flicker as he works on his tablet.]
WILL:
(On radio) Uh, Henry? I'm downstairs. The lights are flickering.
HENRY:
Yeah, I know. I know.
[Henry enters Magnus's office.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - OPERATING ROOM
[The sparks stop and Magnus looks down to see the paddle still sending a charge. They stop and Magnus removes them.]
MAGNUS:
We took a power surge.
KATE:
He's breathing again.
[Magnus checks Druitt's pulse. An alarm sounds.]
KATE:
The infirmary; we got a problem.
MAGNUS:
The empath on oxygen, Musa, she's gone offline. We have to get her back here.
MAGNUS:
[into radio] Will... Bring the patient from the infirmary to the O.R. now!
WILL:
On it.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - MAGNUS'S STUDY - DAY
HENRY:
Doc, I need to do a major system reboot. Can you live without your med servers for a few nanoseconds?
MAGNUS:
Do it.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - OPERATING ROOM
MAGNUS:
We need to check for any breaches in abnormal containment. We won't have full security until Henry's reboot is complete.
[Kate nods but looks at Magnus.]
KATE:
Y-you're cool hanging with Jack the Ripper?
MAGNUS:
He's no danger to anyone right now.
[Magnus removes her hand from Druitt's shoulder as Kate leaves. She turns away from Druitt towards some equipment.]
DRUITT:
Helen...
[Magnus turns back to Druitt.]
DRUITT:
I don't know why... I feel so strange.
MAGNUS:
I know you wanted this to end more quickly. I'm sorry to disappoint you.
DRUITT:
Why did you bring me back?
[Magnus sighs.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - MAGNUS'S STUDY - DAY
HENRY:
(On radio) Main server's coming back online now. I'm going to head to the O.R. and check on the bio-techs.
MAGNUS:
{ON RADIO} Keep me posted.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
[Magnus is leading Druitt into one of the cells. His hands are handcuffed in front of him.]
MAGNUS:
The EM shield is at full strength. Attempt to teleport, and you will die.
DRUITT:
I understand.
[Druitt walks to the end of the room but doesn't look back at Magnus.]
MAGNUS:
This is my fault, John. I should never have believed that you could change, that you had changed. How many have there been since...
DRUITT:
Since you let me back in? Does it matter?
MAGNUS:
You've been killing again and not just Cabal remnants.
[Druitt turns back to face Magnus.]
DRUITT:
Does it matter that I never wanted it to begin again, that I tried to stop? Helen, I tried!
MAGNUS:
This is Whitechapel all over again.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
[Will rushes in and goes directly to Musa. She is conscious but appears very agitated.]
WILL:
You're going to be okay. You're going to be okay. I'm going to get you to the O.R.
MUSA:
[in Zulu] Please. There's something in the building.
WILL:
Your lungs are hurt, but you're going to be okay.
MUSA:
[in Zulu] No. Something terrible, it's in the building. Please, we have to leave. We have to leave!
WILL:
It's going to be okay. You need to put this on. I'm sorry, I don't understand. I'm sorry. I'll get you to Dr. Magnus. She'll understand you. You're going to be fine, okay? I'm going to get you going. I don't speak any Zulu, I'm sorry.
[Will guides the gurney out of the infirmary.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY - OUTSIDE ELEVATOR
[Kate and Bigfoot are waiting for the elevator.]
KATE:
So was I right? You think the boss still has the hots for tall, bald and deadly?
[Bigfoot doesn't answer and enters the elevator as it opens. Kate follows and presses a button on control panel.]
KATE:
Man, I thought I had relationship issues. What about you, Big Guy, anyone special in your life?
BIGFOOT:
I mate every five years.
KATE:
With who?
[The elevator doors close.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - OPERATING ROOM
[Henry is working at the computer as Will guides the gurney in.]
WILL:
Hey, what the hell happened? Someone plug the microwave and the toaster in at the same time?
HENRY:
You got me. I'm still trying to get all systems back online. How's she doing?
WILL:
Her life support is fried. She's on back-up. Magnus wants to keep her close.
HENRY:
All right, we are back up and firing on all cylinders. Now, tell me, who's your daddy?
WILL:
I'm going to go check on the other patients.
HENRY:
What?
[Will leaves and Henry laughs.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
MAGNUS:
I'm arranging for your transfer to a secure facility out of the country. You are far too dangerous to ever be free again.
[Magnus tosses the keys to the cuffs to Druitt who catches them. The lights flicker and the door closes. Emergency lighting comes on as Magnus rushes to the door but isn't able to escape in time. She looks back at Druitt.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
[Will stops when the doors close and looks back towards Henry through the glass.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
[Kate and Bigfoot are surprised when the elevator stops.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
[Henry is enters a code into the door. When it doesn't open he tries again.]
WILL:
What happened now?
HENRY:
Uh...
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
[Bigfoot walks to control panel and presses some buttons. When nothing happens he tries again.]
BIGFOOT:
Stopped.
KATE:
Great.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
[Magnus turns back toward Druitt. He looks at the key and turns it to unlock them. Magnus watches in alarm.]
Act III[]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
[Henry is busy tapping on keys on the computer and Will knocks on the glass.]
HENRY:
Seriously?
WILL:
Hellooo!
HENRY:
I know, I know, we're in auto lockdown! I'm getting an override going now. Oh, come on! Will, this is not good...
[Musa coughs and moans drawing Will's attention.]
WILL:
Henry.
HENRY:
Oh, man.
[Henry rushes over to Musa.]
WILL:
Okay, uh... What was her name again?
HENRY:
Magnus said something like... Bosa. Mm, antlers... Musa!
WILL:
Musa! Musa, okay. So just talk to her and calm her down. It's very important.
HENRY:
Okay. Uh, hey, Musa... Hi. Uh...
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
[Kate is trying to use her cell phone.]
KATE:
What? No signal, since when?
BIGFOOT:
Something's jamming it.
KATE:
Aw, come on.
[Kate walks over to control panels and repeatedly presses buttons.]
KATE:
Agh, this is nuts.
BIGFOOT:
Stop doing that.
KATE:
Don't you guys update your safety equipment?
BIGFOOT:
Constantly.
KATE:
Yeah, well, then why isn't anything working? Where's the disembodied voice saying "chill out. Help's coming?"
BIGFOOT:
I'm that voice.
KATE:
Is help coming?
BIGFOOT:
No. This shouldn't be happening.
KATE:
Hey, can we go out the top, climb up to the next floor?
BIGFOOT:
Yes, we can, but we're not going to. Not safe.
KATE:
Okay Biggie, this whole speaking-in-code thing is really not working for me.
BIGFOOT:
Something's wrong. Need to know what before we do anything rash.
[Bigfoot pulls down the cover for the control panel and looks inside.]
KATE:
Yeah, wouldn't want to do that. Oh... That is some old-school radio shack. Is that an original phone system?
BIGFOOT:
Hmm, from when this wing was built.
KATE:
Looks like it hasn't been used in years.
BIGFOOT:
It hasn't.
KATE:
Do you really think it's going to work?
BIGFOOT:
If you stop talking.
[Bigfoot pulls wires loose and starts gnawing the rubber off. Kate holds up a Swiss Army knife.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
MAGNUS:
Stay exactly where you are.
[Druitt has taken the cuffs off and places them on a table. Magnus has aimed her gun at him.]
MAGNUS:
(On radio) Will, come in. Henry?
[Magnus tries her cell phone.]
DRUITT:
Helen...
MAGNUS:
Do not even think about teleporting. The EM shield stays active in lockdown mode.
DRUITT:
I have no intention of escaping.
MAGNUS:
Really?
DRUITT:
I will answer for my actions.
MAGNUS:
Don't try me, John.
DRUITT:
I'm quite serious, Helen. Something has changed.
MAGNUS:
Stop!
DRUITT:
If you'll let me, I'd like to help.
MAGNUS:
Stop talking. On your knees; hands where I can see them.
[Druitt gets on his knees and holds his arms out.]
DRUITT:
Better?
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
HENRY:
Okay, just sit tight. We're going to get some help. Dude, I need help in here.
WILL:
Yeah, I know, but you got to get me in the room.
[Henry goes back to his tablet.]
HENRY:
Yeah, I know. Oh what the hell is going on? Dude, I'm completely shut out. This is very serious!
WILL:
Come on.
HENRY:
I've tried every override command I can. Will... I have no control.
WILL:
What about the, uh...
HENRY:
(On radio) Hello? Check?
WILL:
Nothing?
HENRY:
I got nothing.
[Musa starts seizing.]
HENRY:
Uh Oh, Will!
WILL:
Yeah, I know.
[Will tries the phone.]
HENRY:
Hang on.
WILL:
(On phone) Magnus? Kate? Anyone! Oh, you've got to be kidding me. Hey, surveillance feed.
[Images appear on the monitors. They can see what is happening with the others.]
HENRY:
There.
WILL:
Will somebody please tell me what the hell is going on here?
MUSA:
[in Zulu] Darkness. Everywhere...
WILL:
"Gunama," what's that mean?
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
KATE:
I had no idea you were a techno whiz. Don't know why. So how old is this building?
BIGFOOT:
Elevator was new when I moved in.
KATE:
When was that, 1950?
BIGFOOT:
'51. Here, hold this. Hello.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCUTARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
BIGFOOT:
[ON SPEAKER] Hello!
HENRY:
Big Guy?
WILL:
Where are you?
BIGFOOT:
In an elevator.
WILL:
No, I know, but where are you?
HENRY:
Will... It's the original room to room intercom. Man, I can't believe that thing still works.
WILL:
Hello? Hey!
KATE:
Hey! What's going on? The phones are dead. Nothing works.
WILL:
Yeah, I know. Henry's locked in the or with a patient. I'm stuck on med level. We've gone into some weird lockdown mode.
KATE:
What for?
WILL:
Well, I was hoping you could tell me.
KATE:
Well, something's going down.
WILL:
Still, it shouldn't kill the phones or lock us out of the computers. At least I can see you. You're on the surveillance cam. Magnus is locked in with Druitt.
BIGFOOT:
Is she all right?
WILL:
Yeah, she's fine. He seems quiet for now.
KATE:
W... w... wait. If audio's down, why is video still running? I mean, shouldn't everything be FUBAR?
WILL:
Why am I talking to you on the oldest intercom ever made?
KATE:
Good point.
WILL:
Look, can you connect with anybody? We need some help down here.
BIGFOOT:
All right, I'll give it a shot.
[The lights flicker and then come on.]
WILL:
We good?
HENRY:
We're still locked out.
WILL:
Oh, come on.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
DRUITT:
This really is none of my doing. Otherwise, why would I still be here?
MAGNUS:
Accidental or not, I will shoot you if you give me reason.
DRUITT:
That is very clear.
MAGNUS:
None of this makes any sense. Lockdown shouldn't cut off our communications or jam our radio and phone signals. Henry's overrides must not be working.
DRUITT:
Helen, I know there's no good time but I need you to understand something.
[The lights flicker.]
MAGNUS:
What is this!
DRUITT:
It's as if a part of me has been severed.
BIGFOOT:
[ON SPEAKER] Can anybody hear me?
MAGNUS:
Yes, I can. Where are you?
BIGFOOT:
Elevator.
MAGNUS:
There's been a malfunction in the security system. I need assistance.
BIGFOOT:
Not the only one.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
[Kate is looking over Bigfoot's shoulder as he works on com system.]
KATE:
No, no. Try that one, the black wire.
BIGFOOT:
Henry? Will? Found her.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
WILL:
All right, boost the signal if you can.
BIGFOOT:
You're connected.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
WILL:
[ON SPEAKER] Magnus, we got a patient in major distress here.
MAGNUS:
Where are you?
WILL:
In the O.R. with Henry. It's Musa. She's having a seizure.
HENRY:
Doc, her heart rate is rapid, but her blood pressure's really low.
WILL:
I don't know enough about her physiology. How do we proceed?
MAGNUS:
First priority, stop the seizure. Can you find a vial of diazepam?
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
WILL:
Uh, yeah, yeah, back cabinets, bottom left.
MAGNUS:
[ON SPEAKER] Two milligrams in an IV. Can you set that up?
WILL:
Yeah, we're on it.
MAGNUS:
Good. Let me know when that's up and running.
WILL:
All right.
MAGNUS:
It should calm her convulsions.
HENRY:
Uh, yeah, okay. I'm doing it now. Oh, boy.
[Henry depresses the syringe into Musa's IV.]
KATE:
So, what the hell happened?
HENRY:
I've already tried everything I can from a remote terminal. This isn't a glitch, believe me. We're locked out on purpose.
WILL:
You know, we're all cut off from each other but there's elements of the security system that is still active. It's got to be a targeted attack.
HENRY:
No. No way. Since we got hacked, our remote security protocols all have triple redundancies now, it's totally not possible.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
MAGNUS:
No perimeter breach detected no data theft, and these odd power fluctuations?
HENRY:
Yeah, I know. None of it matches the patterns of a remote hack.
MAGNUS:
And yet we're all at a perfect disadvantage.
KATE:
Okay, so we got hit by something, Any theories on how to undo it?
WILL:
You know, this all started right after Henry rebooted the entire system. Everything was fine and then...
MAGNUS:
The system overloaded. It must've damaged the automated commands running the Sanctuary.
HENRY:
All the security cameras are working, but I can't get into a system that I created. It's like someone's running all this in real time.
WILL:
You think somebody's controlling things from inside the building?
KATE:
Yeah, one of the abnormals we rescued?
MAGNUS:
Impossible, they're here seeking asylum and it's not their way.
DRUITT:
Helen...
[Druitt stands up.]
DRUITT:
When you revived me...
MAGNUS:
The overload, a massive energy surge.
WILL:
Yeah, but from what?
DRUITT:
I feel different. I feel... Purged, purified.
MAGNUS:
It came from you.
DRUITT:
I think so.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
MAGNUS:
How's Musa doing?
WILL:
Uh, well, the convulsions have stopped. She seems to be stabilizing.
MAGNUS:
Good. Henry, take the defib paddles and charge them to maximum.
HENRY:
All right. Okay, Max power, ready.
MAGNUS:
Juice the electrical panel.
[Henry looks ups at Will shocked. Will shrugs and Henry moves to the electrical panel and delivers the current. Sparks fly all over and then builds as currents arc over the room.]
WILL:
Something just came out... What the hell was that?
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
MAGNUS:
It's not anyone inside the building, it's the building itself.
[Magnus has lowered her gun.]
KATE:
What does that mean?
MAGNUS:
That something very much alive is in control of the Sanctuary.
Act IV[]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
WILL:
What, like as in an electrical being?
MAGNUS:
This one appears sentient, even natively intelligent. It's found a way to cut us all off from each other.
WILL:
The fluctuations; it's testing its new environment.
MAGNUS:
Exactly, and it won't be long before it has full control.
KATE:
Okay, time out. Are you guys sure this thing is hostile? It's a trapped creature. Maybe it'll just... I don't know, hang out and chill.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
DRUITT:
It's violent, remorseless, relentless. It won't give up ground without a fight. Think of it as facing me.
MAGNUS:
Once it has full control of this facility it will be unstoppable. It could easily spread to the city and beyond.
KATE:
So how do we fight it?
MAGNUS:
Henry, we need...
HENRY:
...defense protocols, you got it, Doc. I just need to be able to feed it into the network.
MAGNUS:
Which won't be easy.
WILL:
Fill me in.
MAGNUS:
Energy creatures often behave like viruses. They forge a parasitic relationship with whatever host environment they can invade.
HENRY:
Yeah, about four years ago we had something like this caught in our back-up generators. It caused a lot of craziness till we flushed it out.
WILL:
How'd you do that?
HENRY:
Well, this one's got me locked out, but... You know, if we can restart the main power, do a cold start, I might be able to gain control.
MAGNUS:
Which means getting into the catacombs and shutting down the power.
WILL:
Which we can't do, can we?
MAGNUS:
Well, we have to find a way. Kate, can you get out through the top of your elevator, climb to a different floor?
KATE:
I've already thought of that but opinions are divided.
BIGFOOT:
I don't like it, not with something monitoring our every move.
WILL:
Yeah, it's watching all of us, which is kind of creepy.
KATE:
Oh, come on, it can't know what we're up to.
MAGNUS:
All of you, knock out your security cameras as... politely as possible.
[Henry and Kate both slowly put clothes over the cameras.]
WILL:
All right, done.
MAGNUS:
Henry, are you able to log onto the network?
HENRY:
Yeah, but I'm totally locked out. It's like playing Xbox without my... joystick.
MAGNUS:
All right, keep trying to hack in. As the creature adjusts to its new environment, it may give you an opening.
HENRY:
All right, I'm on it.
MAGNUS:
Will, do you have any access to the old duct system from where you are?
WILL:
Uh... yeah, I guess there must be. Why, what are you thinking?
MAGNUS:
The old heating system's obsolete. We switched to radiant years ago.
WILL:
Meaning it's probably outside of electro's field of vision. Nice.
MAGNUS:
Get down there, reboot the system. It should give us control of some of the key sections.
WILL:
All right.
MAGNUS:
Kate... One of you should climb up to the next floor, see if there's another way to the catacombs.
KATE:
We're on it.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
[Kate and Bigfoot have opened the ceiling panel.]
BIGFOOT:
Are you sure? I can go.
KATE:
No. I'm lighter. I'll get there faster.
BIGFOOT:
Faster's good.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
[Will searches the room and finds the shaft.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
BIGFOOT:
Here, I'll help you.
[Bigfoot grasps Kate's waist to lift her up.]
KATE:
Hey, watch where the hands go, Wookiee.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
WILL:
Hey, I think I found a way in.
HENRY:
All right, you should go. Just be careful.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
[Kate has reached the top of the elevator.]
KATE:
See you in a few.
[Kate climbs the cable up.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
[Will grabs a flashlight and enters the shaft.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
MAGNUS:
You said you feel... different. What do you mean by that?
DRUITT:
The darkness within me is gone... completely. Far more than when Tesla shocked me, that was appeasement, but this... this is... so peaceful.
MAGNUS:
It must have happened when I restarted your heart. The creature jumped from you into the facility itself.
DRUITT:
But how did it end up inside me in the first place? I have no recollection of ever encountering it before.
MAGNUS:
You wouldn't have to...God, it actually makes sense. Every time you teleport, you convert your molecular structure to pure energy.
DRUITT:
Yes.
MAGNUS:
The creature could have latched onto you during one of your jumps, integrated into your being when you re-materialized.
DRUITT:
And now...that its influence is gone...Is it not possible this entity was the sole cause of my bloodlust? That it's been polluting my soul since I began using my power?
MAGNUS:
Oh...
[Magnus walks to Druitt]
MAGNUS:
I want to believe you, John, but it's far too easy to blame everything you've done on something else.
DRUITT:
Yeah, right. My mind is so... clear. As it was when we first met. That thing was my rage. I'm sure of it.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
MUSA:
[in Zulu] There's danger! Can't you feel it? The darkness is growing.
HENRY:
Shh, shh, it's okay. You're okay here. You're okay.
MUSA:
[in Zulu] It's making something... Poison for the air!
HENRY:
Oh, I so don't understand what you're saying right now but I can tell it's not good! Something's bugging you... you're an empath, and that's...
[An alarm sounds on Henry's computer.]
HENRY:
Oh, God. Hang on a sec, what the hell is that? Hang on.
[Henry goes to his computer.]
HENRY:
Doc? It's looking for something! It's scanning our chemical directory.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
DRUITT:
How could it actually access those compounds?
MAGNUS:
Using the robotic assist mechanism, it is possible. What else could it be after?
HENRY:
Well, it could just be doing an inventory diagnostic. I don't know, I'm still scanning. I'm trying to find a way to break in. If it shifts focus for... (INTERCOM BREAKS UP)
MAGNUS:
Henry?
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
HENRY:
Doc?
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
BIGFOOT:
We lost the intercom!
KATE:
So fix it!
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
MAGNUS:
John, what's its agenda?
DRUITT:
Chaos, death, suffering, sound familiar? Once it learns everything it can about its environment the violence will escalate.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - VENTILATION SHAFT
WILL:
Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs...
[Will comes to an intersection.]
WILL:
Right is east... Right?
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
[The creature turns on the furnace heating the shaft. Another alarms sounds on Henry's computer.]
HENRY:
All right, fine. You want to play, let's play.
[Henry rearranges some wires and hooks up his tablet.]
HENRY:
Here we go. You zap me again and I'll kill you... Somehow.
[Henry is able to get in and laughs]
HENRY:
Hallelujah!
HENRY:
Oh, man... Oh, found the furnace!
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - VENTILATION SHAFT
[Will feels a draft.]
WILL:
Thought these were out of commission. Defunct, my ass.
[The shaft becomes hot and Will takes off his over shirt to protect his hands as he crawls. He looks up to see flames coming toward him.]
WILL:
Oh, crap.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
MUSA:
[in Zulu] It will end us all... wants us to die.
HENRY:
Oh, come on. Elevator, too? A little slack, please!
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
[Kate looks down when she hears the elevator start to rise.]
KATE:
Oh, not good.
BIGFOOT:
Kate!
KATE:
Dammit.
BIGFOOT:
Get down here!
KATE:
Get out of the way!
[Kate drops through the opening back into the elevator.]
KATE:
We've got power again.
BIGFOOT:
Yes, but no control.
KATE:
It's always something, isn't it?
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
HENRY:
Aah... I'm writing a damn symphony here. Come on... Just a tiny little command, nothing to threaten you. Come on... Come on!
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
[The elevator drops.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - VENTILATION SHAFT
[Will scurries down the shaft as fast as he can. He comes to the end of the vent and turn back toward the gaining flame. Just before it reaches him the furnace shuts down.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
HENRY:
Yes! Suck it, electro! This is my town!
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - VENTILATION SHAFT
[Will opens his eyes to see the flame is gone.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
KATE:
This thing has brakes, right?
BIGFOOT:
Used to!
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
HENRY:
Next, elevators. Right, emergency brakes are... Active! Okay! See? See? What'd I say?
[The elevator stops.]
HENRY:
Okay, what else you got for me, Buddy? Oh, no.
[In the main lab the creature is using the robotics to mix chemicals.]
HENRY:
It's going to kill us all.
Act V[]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
KATE:
Did I mention I hate rides?
[Bigfoot laughs but stops when the elevator starts to rise again.]
KATE:
Uh, really?
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - CATACOMBS
[Will drops to the floor looks around and runs.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
BIGFOOT:
It's stripping the emergency brakes.
KATE:
And taking us higher so that when we reach the top...
BIGFOOT:
We drop.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
HENRY:
Oh, you son of a... Ah... Come on, Will, cut the power.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - CATACOMBS
[Will rushes to the electrical panel as the creature sends a current toward the panel. Will uses his shirt to cover his hands and turn the power off just beating the current.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
[The lights go out.]
MUSA:
Yebo
HENRY:
Huh?
MUSA:
Yebo.
HENRY:
Yebo. Yebo, damn right!
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
[The elevator drops in a free fall.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - CATACOMBS
[Will turns the power back on.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - SHU
[Magnus is sitting next to Druitt waiting when the lights come on.]
DRUITT:
I believe your people have risen to the occasion.
MAGNUS:
Of course they have.
MAGNUS:
(On radio) Hey, doc, it's Henry. Will did it. Communications are back, so's most of everything else.
MAGNUS:
Most?
HENRY:
Yeah, I'm working on it. Doc, the toxins it was scanning? It's making something very bad, very fast. It's using the automated assist.
MAGNUS:
Can you override it?
HENRY:
Yeah, that's the problem. I've reclaimed everything else but I'm still locked out of the main lab. I can't make it stop.
DRUITT:
Mr. Foss, can you open the door?
HENRY:
Uh, Doc?
MAGNUS:
It's all right, Henry.
HENRY:
All right, hang on.
[The door opens and Magnus and Druitt run out.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR SHAFT
[Bigfoot is hanging from a cable holding Kate.]
KATE:
Uh, ouch.
BIGFOOT:
Nice.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - HALLWAY - OUTSIDE MAIN LAB
[Henry is waiting as Druitt and Magnus run up. Druitt leans against the door as Magnus talks to Henry.]
HENRY:
Sarin gas nerve agent. We've got about 90 seconds. It'll release the compound into the vents.
[Druitt turns to Magnus.]
DRUITT:
It won't end here. It will grow, consuming whatever it can and never stop killing.
MAGNUS:
Henry, we need more time.
DRUITT:
We don't have it.
[Magnus and Druitt stare at each other as Will joins them.]
WILL:
Okay, power's been reset. We should be good. What's happening now?
DRUITT:
My entire body is geared to being its home.
MAGNUS:
John.
DRUITT:
Let me go.
MAGNUS:
John, you don't have to do this. We could find a way...
DRUITT:
I love you. Remember that...Always.
[Druitt looks over Magnus's shoulder toward Henry.]
DRUITT:
Mr. Foss, would you be so kind as to deactivate the EM shield?
[Henry looks to Magnus for approval. She turn back and nods quickly looking back to Druitt.]
DRUITT:
For all eternity.
[Druitt teleports into main lab.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[The creature re-enters Druitt and he collapses. The door opens and Magnus rushes to join.]
MAGNUS:
I need a med kit right away!
[Magnus grabs Druitt shoulder to turn him over. He wakes and pushes her away knocking her down.]
DRUITT:
Get away from me!
[Druitt stands defensively.]
MAGNUS:
Please, let me help you!
DRUITT:
I don't need your help!
MAGNUS:
It would have killed a lot more if it weren't for you. You kept it at bay.
DRUITT:
I need to leave now.
MAGNUS:
Where are you going?
DRUITT:
I have no destination in mind.
MAGNUS:
John, wait.
[Druitt teleports away and Magnus sighs.]
