The Sanctuary Network
2x05

Helen Magnus arrives in the alternate timeline.

The Guardian's timeline was an alternate timeline that was shown to Helen Magnus by the Guardian in order to keep her from making the mistake of using an ancient Mayan elixir.

History[]

Episode 2x05 - "Pavor Nocturnus"
In this unfolding of events in the next ten years after the death of Ashley Magnus, the population of the planet Earth -- both human and abnormal -- was almost completely wiped out by a virus that mutated from the elixir. However, the vision of the events convinced Helen Magnus to return the elixir into the Guardian's custody, and the world shown to her never came to be.

In her effort to finally become mortal again, Helen Magnus had unknowingly unleashed a virus on the world in 2009; becoming patient zero. The infection spread at an alarming rate that could not be contained. The spreading of the infected caused the evacuation and subsequent destruction of the entire global Sanctuary Network.

Henry Foss made weapons for the government until it fell. He eventually became infected himself and was killed by a single gunshot wound to the head (In 2019, a photo of his corpse was found by Helen Magnus in a file folder left at the Old City Sanctuary).

After Old City was evacuated, Helen Magnus tried to hold on the Old City Sanctuary (the last Sanctuary). Unfortunately, it too had to be abandoned. Bigfoot refused to leave the Old City Sanctuary after the Sanctuary team pulled up stakes, even though there was nothing left to protect. He died defending the facility.

In 2016, Helen Magnus was killed in an air strike on the infected in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Magnus was trying to evacuate a neighborhood (ground zero) at the time of her death when the Air Force dropped a Daisy Cutter. 15,000 people including Magnus were vaporized, leaving no trace behind. Two weeks after Helen Magnus's death, John Druitt commits suicide via teleporting a tactical nuke into a high-density infection area of Boston, destroying most of the city.

Sometime during this timeline, Will Zimmerman and Kate Freelander become lovers. In 2017, Will and Kate have a son they named Magnus Zimmerman in honor of Helen Magnus. At some point afterward, Kate was eventually killed in the fighting.

Will set up a resistance fighter colony in the arctic that was part of a larger militia. The colony consisted of a few thousand uninfected living on remote islands. Will leaves his son at the arctic colony and is found to have travelled back to Old City in 2019, eventually coming across an alive and well Helen Magnus wandering the apocalyptic wasteland. He tries to hold her captive, not believing it to truly be her, but she escapes. After the small militia group he's with falls, and he becomes injured, Will seeks Magnus out at the Old City Sanctuary for treatment. Will dies there a few hours later while fighting the invading pale-faces.

Notes[]

  • Characters found only in the Guardian's timeline: Jason, Simmons, Jessica Mitchell, and Magnus Zimmerman.
  • Order of character deaths: Henry Foss, Bigfoot, Helen Magnus, John Druitt, Kate Freelander, and Will Zimmerman.
  • It is unknown when and where Henry Foss died. Henry is said to have made weapons for the government until it fell. It is unknown if he had left the Old City Sanctuary to work at an offsite government facility or stayed put at the Old City Sanctuary, working out of i.e. the small weapons lab. It is also unknown how long it took for the government to fall. Had Henry left, it had to be early enough in the fighting before complete societal collapse and also abandonment of the Old City Sanctuary in order to have a photo of his corpse present in the files at the Old City Sanctuary in 2019. Otherwise, He would had to have died close by (and his body brought back) or within the Sanctuary facility for Helen Magnus to have potentially taken the photo herself for her own records.
  • It is unknown when and where Kate Freelander died. Whether or not she died before, during, or after Will set up an arctic colony.
  • It is unknown when Will Zimmerman established the arctic colony. It can be speculated to have occurred after total global collapse, where Will leaves to find and gather remaining uninfected survivors; bringing them back to the colony (hence maybe why he's travelled back to Old City).
