DANA:
Your mother and her colleagues will no doubt try to stop us. They'll fail. You're going to help us complete our plan.

ASHLEY:
- What did you do to me?
CABAL SCIENTIST:
- See? I told you you'd be better than before.
MAGNUS:
You're Cabal. You know who we are. Stop acting like a fool. - Name!
KATE:
- Kate Freelander. For the record, I'm not Cabal.
WILL:
So you're a freelance operative?
KATE:
Whoever pays me the most gets my services.
MAGNUS:
Ashley. What have they done to you? Ashley, please. Will, no!
WILL:
She was waiting for us, but it wasn't any Ashley you'd know.
TESLA:
They've used the source blood to change her.
MAGNUS:
It's not gonna stop there. There'll be more just like her very soon.
DANA:
Six operatives are now ready for deployment. Their first mission will be the most vital to our long-term interests... The complete destruction of the Sanctuary Network.

EXT. - OLD CITY - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - NIGHT
WILL:
[voiceover] Magnus?
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY
[Magnus is walking quickly down a hall. Will is following several feet behind her.]
WILL:
Magnus, wait! What are you going to do to her?
[Magnus steps into the elevator without answering, glaring at Will as the doors close, leaving Will behind.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
[Magnus slams open the door and crosses over to where Kate is laying in bed, eating.]
KATE:
[gesturing at food] You know, this isn't bad. Though I find the peas are a little overcooked.
[Magnus moves the food tray out of the way and leans in toward Kate.]
MAGNUS:
The Cabal location you gave us was a trap. We barely escaped with our lives.
KATE:
Well, I could see how that would suck.
MAGNUS:
You set us up.
KATE:
Okay, time out for a second! I did not set you up. You asked for a location, that's the only one I know. Don't blame me if the Cabal is one step ahead of you. It's what they do!
MAGNUS:
[yelling] Are you completely incapable of understanding what's happening here? They've turned my daughter into a... [Magnus stops and glares at Kate for a long moment before continuing calmly] I want to talk to your contact at the Cabal. Now.
EXT. - CABAL FACILITY - NIGHT
INT. - CABAL OFFICES - NIGHT
[A phone rings as Dana Whitcomb walks across a darkened foyer. She answers her cell phone.]
DANA:
Dana Whitcomb.
MAGNUS:
[over phone] Is that your real name, or just the one we'll put on your headstone?
DANA:
Helen. Nice of you to call.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - MAGNUS'S STUDY
MAGNUS:
You have my daughter. I want her back. Before this escalates any further, I'm willing to listen to your terms.
INT. - CABAL OFFICES - NIGHT
DANA:
Well, actually, they're very simple. We would happily arrange for Ashley to be returned to you, provided you're willing to give us what we want.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - MAGNUS'S STUDY
MAGNUS:
Which is?
INT. - CABAL OFFICES - NIGHT
DANA:
Surrender the entire Sanctuary global Network into our hands immediately.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - MAGNUS'S STUDY
[Magnus looks stunned.]
DANA:
[over phone] Your daughter, or your work.
INT. - CABAL OFFICES - NIGHT
DANA:
You choose.
[Dana hangs up the phone]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - MAGNUS'S STUDY
[Magnus stares at her phone in shock for a moment. She throws the phone across the room with a yell. There's the sound of something shattering.]

EXT. - OLD CITY - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ESTABLISHING SHOT - NIGHT
WILL:
[voiceover] Tell me you're not actually considering this.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - MAGNUS'S STUDY - NIGHT
[Magnus, Druitt, Henry, Tesla, and Will are standing around the room]
MAGNUS:
It's an impossible choice.
DRUITT:
Is it?
MAGNUS:
If I did capitulate, do you honestly believe that the Cabal would honor their end of the deal?
DRUITT:
She's our daughter!
TESLA:
Actually, I'm not so sure about that anymore.
HENRY:
What the hell is she, then?
WILL:
She exhibited multiple powers. Teleportation, speed, strength-
TESLA:
Healing powers, super reflexes, vampiric tendencies. Sound familiar?
HENRY:
Multiple powers?
DRUITT:
In one very violent package.
MAGNUS:
Whatever the Cabal has done to Ashley, it's obvious that the source blood is a key element. We need to find a way to interfere with it.
TESLA:
You mean a weapon?
MAGNUS:
Yes.
DRUITT:
Helen!
MAGNUS:
To disable her. Neutralize her powers.
HENRY:
Doc, I'm totally on board with all this, but we have no idea how much they've messed with her genetic make-up. Making a weapon to stop her, it kinda feels like a shot in the dark.
TESLA:
Not to mention neutralizing the effects of the source blood, or any mind control drugs, it could kill her outright.
MAGNUS:
Then make certain it doesn't.
TESLA:
I'll need two weeks.
MAGNUS:
We don't have that. You'll have every resource available, Nikola. I want a working prototype ready immediately. Henry, you'll assist.
WILL:
Okay, so we know the Cabal's real agenda now. They want the entire Sanctuary Network under their control.
DRUITT:
Or destroyed.
WILL:
Either way, Ashley has intimate knowledge of our security protocols, communications systems, defense designs.
HENRY:
We changed all the codes when Ashley went rogue, but if she's as powerful as you say she is, we're gonna have to alter every single security protocol in the Network.
MAGNUS:
I'll speak to the heads of every facility, let them know what to expect.
DRUITT:
With Ashley? They could bring this entire Network to its knees.
MAGNUS:
Which means that every second is critical. Work fast, gentlemen.
[Tesla, Will and Henry exchange glances and overwhelmed signs as Magnus storms out of the room, Druitt following her.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY
MAGNUS:
Spare me!
DRUITT:
You are intent on going to war while I'm pushing for compromise.
MAGNUS:
So we surrender every abnormal under our protection? I don't think so.
DRUITT:
Only enough to get Ashley back. Fight another day when we're stronger.
MAGNUS:
We both know that day will never come.
DRUITT:
But you saw what they've done to her!
MAGNUS:
How dare you! You think your sentiments come from some generous place? They do not! It's pure ego!
DRUITT:
Ego? [scoffs] Try regret.
MAGNUS:
Ashley and I did fine on our own, John. Don't waste your time on the past.
DRUITT:
You misunderstand me. Again. My regret is not that I wasn't here to change nappies or watch her take her first steps. It's what I gave her. What the Cabal has summoned from within her. The gifts she inherited from me. My blood-lust.
MAGNUS:
You weren't always that way, John. You were changed. And like your condition, I'm convinced hers can be managed.
DRUITT:
And if you're wrong?
[Druitt and Magnus stare silently at each other as the elevator doors open behind Magnus.]
DRUITT:
What's bred in the bone can't be undone in the flesh.
[Magnus shakes her head and glares at Druitt, then walks into the elevator and doesn't look back at him as Druitt watches the doors close.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - TESLA'S LABORATORY
[Henry is working a metal tube. Tesla is at the table behind him.]
TESLA:
You'd think with all the resources available to her, she'd have a more updated facility. This place is as backward as Oxford before the war. The first war.
[Henry finishes with the bar and carries it over to Tesla]
HENRY:
Yeah, well, I think Dr. Magnus likes to keep the old stuff around for old times' sake. She trusts it more than the high-tech stuff I try to push on her.
TESLA:
She's incredibly cheap, to boot.
HENRY:
I really can't comment on that.
TESLA:
What, paycheck that low?
HENRY:
You don't think we can make a working prototype in time.
TESLA:
Not even close. A weapon to disable, not kill, someone who possesses the abilities of five of the most powerful abnormals on Earth. Ludicrous. Pass me that. So, how do we instantly affect the viability of Ashley's altered blood?
HENRY:
Localized radiation burst.
TESLA:
Obvious. What kind of radiation?
HENRY:
Beta, x, gamma. Concentrated, focused exposure.
TESLA:
Possibly. But how to modulate the energy spectrum so that it has the desired benign effect?
HENRY:
While still taking her out.
TESLA:
The reason I'm asking is because I don't know the answer. And I'm me.
HENRY:
Well. [Henry's phone begins to ring with a werewolf ring tone] Oh, excuse me. Back in five.
[Henry leaves.]
TESLA:
Oh, I'll be here working. Trying to save the world. Single-handedly. Ugh.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - HALLWAY
[Henry is pushing Kate's wheelchair down the hall.]
HENRY:
I don't understand why you can't just use what we gave you.
KATE:
A bedpan? Dude, I draw the line at sitting on a metal salad bowl.
HENRY:
All right, fine, but the cuffs stay on.
KATE:
Yeah, I can deal. Just get me to a powder room.
[They pass the windows to Bigfoot's isolation room. Henry slows down and stops pushing.]
KATE:
Patient?
HENRY:
Friend.
KATE:
You have got to be kidding me... Is that a-
HENRY:
Yes.
KATE:
[laughing] For real?
HENRY:
Do you mind?
KATE:
Do you know what one of those is worth on the black market?
HENRY:
Seriously.
[Henry glares. Kate wheels closer to the window.]
KATE:
More than you can make in ten years, dummy.
[Bigfoot gets up and throws a glass of milk at the window, yelling. Kate jumps.]
KATE:
Lazarus virus? But I heard there was a cure.
HENRY:
Let's just keep moving.
[Henry wheels Kate away from the window and down the hall.]
INT. - CABAL MONITORING ROOM
[Scientists bustle about their work as Dana walks in.]
CABAL TECHNICIAN:
We're ready for mission start on your mark.
DANA:
Start the clock. You have a go.
[Dana stands looking at a screen showing the Tokyo Sanctuary]
EXT. - TOKYO, JAPAN - TOKYO SANCTUARY - ESTABLISHING SHOT - NIGHT
INT. - TOKYO SANCTUARY - MAIN LAB - NIGHT
[A man, Dr. Hiromato, yells a warning into his headset as Ashley & two others drop through the glass ceiling into the Tokyo Sanctuary and begin advancing on him.]
HIROMATO:
Mayday! Mayday!
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - HALLWAY
[Magnus comes out of the elevator at a jog and runs down the hallway to her office. Tesla, Druitt, Will, and Henry are gathered around the computer.]
MAGNUS:
John! I need you to take Nikola and I there right away. We need to get into this fight.
DRUITT:
We can't help them.
MAGNUS:
What are you talking about? Why?
WILL:
Because the entire facility fell in 20 minutes.
HENRY:
Tokyo's gone.
Act II[]
EXT. - OLD CITY - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ESTABLISHING SHOT - NIGHT
MEDUSA:
[voiceover] Dr. Hiromato refused to evacuate until his staff were already out.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB - NIGHT
MEDUSA:
We found his body in the main lab. Most of the residents got out safely, but if we'd been housing anything dangerous at the time...
MAGNUS:
We'd have a much larger problem on our hands.
WILL:
Do you have any idea how they beat the EM shield? That should've prevented them from transporting within the facility. Teleporting within it would disrupt their molecular structure beyond recognition.
MEDUSA:
They targeted the EM shield right after the breech. After that, we had no hope against them. All our defensive weapons were useless.
DECLAN:
Get in by brute force, turn off our best defense, take out the head of the house. All in just minutes.
MEDUSA:
There's more. We detected a remotely-activated data burst just before the facility was set on fire.
MAGNUS:
How much information did they steal?
MEDUSA:
All of it, Dr. Magnus.
DECLAN:
The EM shield is the only thing that can stop them. If they continue finding ways to counteract it, we'll have no defense.
MAGNUS:
Henry Foss is working with his counterparts at all of your sanctuaries. He's assembled a list of new security upgrades which include modified shield codes and better perimeter safeguards.
MEDUSA:
With all respect, Ashley knows every facility, every security protocol.
MAGNUS:
I'm aware of that. Henry's new countermeasures were designed with Ashley's knowledge in mind. And that said, I've asked each of you to evacuate all residents and personnel until this crisis is over.
DECLAN:
You mentioned a weapon that could potentially stop these beings. When can that come into play?
MAGNUS:
Soon, I hope. In the meantime, we're working on finding out which of the Sanctuaries will be the Cabal's next target. As much as I hate to use this terminology, we are at war. And one that we are ill-prepared for.
DECLAN:
Can't we request assistance from the intelligence community?
MAGNUS:
Our job is to handle situations exactly like this one. It's why governments allow us to exist. If we can't deal with this, there is no other line of defense.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - TESLA'S LAB
[Henry is looking at a Nubbin inside a clear box. There is a large rifle-sized weapon on a tripod behind him. Henry is wearing a lead apron and a hardhat. Tesla is working at the table behind Henry.]
HENRY:
Did you really inject your own blood into Little Damien here?
TESLA:
We have to see the effects of the radiation blast on source blood physiology and I'm hardly going to do the test on myself.
HENRY:
I hope it doesn't make him too sick.
TESLA:
Oh yes. Me, too. Stand back.
[Tesla turns the weapon on and aims it at the nubbin. The nubbin clearly doesn't like it and starts to chitter loudly.]
HENRY:
Dude, it's losing its mind.
TESLA:
Interesting.
HENRY:
Hey, making Ashley crazy-mad is not in the same category as disabling her.
TESLA:
We learn more from failure than from success. Or so I've heard.
HENRY:
Okay, so basically, we're back at Square One. That's awesome.
TESLA:
Listen. The Cabal have been planning this move for decades. I've had two days, a crappy lab, and Tiny Tim for an assistant, so please cut me some slack.
HENRY:
If you think working with you is a party, think again, Vlad!
TESLA:
Good, you finally showed up. Quit your whining and get to work.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
[Kate is still handcuffed to the bed, reading "Gone with the Trash," by Patrick Lussier & Brad Rines, and listening to music on headphones. Will comes in the door and gestures for her to pull the earphones out. Kate does.]
KATE:
You look happy.
WILL:
You heard about Tokyo.
KATE:
Hmm. Sounded rough.
WILL:
You could help stop this from happening again. And spare me the "I don't work for free" speech. You know the Cabal, their strategies, their methods. Look, this is a great opportunity for you to buy yourself some credibility. The head of the Sanctuary plus other key personnel were targeted in the Tokyo attack.
KATE:
And I'm betting they sent a remote data burst before they torched the place, too.
WILL:
Yeah.
KATE:
You're in for a world of hurt, my friend.
WILL:
What are they planning?
KATE:
The Cabal has been dying to cut off the snake's head of the Network for decades.
WILL:
But they can't get to Magnus directly.
KATE:
But now, thanks to Ashley, they can work both ends against the middle.
WILL:
So they plan to target the heads of every house.
KATE:
And I'm betting Magnus Junior knows all the codes, schematics, and protocols to get her and her freaky friends into every Sanctuary in the world, right?
WILL:
So they want to isolate us. Cut us off from each other, knock out the other Sanctuaries before going after the crown jewel.
KATE:
This Sanctuary is the most heavily fortified. Once they weaken the global Network... I'm betting they'll hit London as a dry run before coming here.
WILL:
You seem to know a lot about us. For somebody who's just a hired gun.
KATE:
You seem to know squat about the Cabal. Not good news for your team, Boy Scout.
WILL:
Magnus knows a hell of a lot more than you think.
KATE:
Well, then she should use it.
WILL:
What about Ashley? You must know something. About what they've done to her and how they've changed her.
KATE:
Uh uh. Like you said, I'm just a free-lancer.
WILL:
Really. Well, you seemed important enough for them to want to kill you when they thought you were compromised.
KATE:
That doesn't mean I have an inside track to all things Cabal. It just means they like to kill people they don't trust. Honestly, I'm just here because I'm pretty sure they'll take this place last. And I just wanna enjoy the last remaining peaceful hours of my life, before I begin my career as a hunted fugitive. You should do the same.
[Kate puts her earphones back in and goes back to her book. Will nods and stands up to leave.]
WILL:
Thanks.
KATE:
Mmm hmm.
[Will leaves]
EXT. - LONDON, ENGLAND - LONDON SANCTUARY - ESTABLISHING SHOT - NIGHT
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[The London head of house, Declan MacRae walks into the room just before Druitt and Magnus teleport in. Magnus has a suitcase. Druitt promptly teleports away again.
MAGNUS:
Declan.
DECLAN:
We just got word. Moscow's been hit.
MAGNUS:
How badly?
DECLAN:
Fifteen human casualties, twelve abnormal. Lots of damage.
MAGNUS:
Beijing, New Delhi, now Moscow. None of our new security protocols are making any difference. Did you get the shipment I sent?
DECLAN:
Both species are in the secured area now.
MAGNUS:
Good. I want them ready for deployment as soon as possible. If the pattern holds, we should have at least seven hours before the next attack.
[Druitt teleports in with Tesla and Will, all of them holding supplies of various quantities.]
DECLAN:
Welcome to London, gentlemen.
MAGNUS:
Will, Nikola, this is Declan MacRae, acting head of the UK facility.
DECLAN:
Dr. Tesla, it's an honor.
TESLA:
Is it? Surely James Watson told you about me before he died.
DECLAN:
He did, indeed. In the most respectful terms.
TESLA:
Oh, then the honor is mine. You have big shoes to fill, Mr. MacRae.
DECLAN:
We have a lab set up for you to continue your work. All according to the specifications you sent us.
TESLA:
I'll need wine. The good stuff, nothing cheap.
[Declan looks at Magnus, who looks irritated but nods assent.]
DECLAN:
Of course. This way.
[Tesla follows Declan out the door as Clara comes running in.]
CLARA:
Will!
WILL:
Hey, Clara!
[Clara runs past Magnus, who opens her mouth to speak, but Clara doesn't slow down on her way to kiss Will.]
WILL:
My god.
CLARA:
God, I missed you.
MAGNUS:
You seem well, Clara.
CLARA:
Hey, Dr. Magnus. Mr. Druitt, nice to see you.
DRUITT:
I see time in the Empire has taught you some manners.
CLARA:
Um... Can you guys excuse us for a bit? I'm gonna rip Will's clothes off before the bad guys attack.
[Clara tows Will out the door]
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - HALLWAY
[Elevator doors open and Will and Clara stumble out, trying to not break their kiss. Will pushes away.]
WILL:
Okay, whoa whoa whoa, hold- Hold on a second. What are you still doing here? I thought you were going to evacuate with the other residents.
CLARA:
Well, I didn't join up so I could just run away when the going got tough. I wanna help defend the place. And I think I owe Magnus that.
WILL:
Look, you heard what happened at the other Sanctuaries. It's gonna get really bad here.
CLARA:
Invisible girl.
[Will scoffs]
CLARA:
Really. We need all the help we can get. Okay, so. They have all these old movies here, the ones with old British dudes acting in them. Now, I don't have any bandages, but...
[Clara strips off her sweater and turns invisible. Her dress looks like it's keeping itself up in front of Will with nothing inside it.]
WILL:
Okay, that's... spooky.
[The dress moves like Clara is taking it off]
CLARA:
I have control now, Dr. Zimmerman.
[Will stands with his mouth open as his shirt unbuttons itself]
WILL:
[stammering] Uh, we- we- we don't have time for this.
CLARA:
They are going to be recalibrating the EM shield for the next two hours and I haven't seen you in weeks.
WILL:
Okay. Two hours.
EXT. - CABAL FACILITY - ESTABLISHING SHOT - NIGHT
CABAL TECHNICIAN:
[voiceover] We have a tap on their security monitors and we're detecting high-spectrum EM frequencies covering the entire compound.
INT. - CABAL MONITORING ROOM
[Dana is standing in front of a large screen displaying medical data and a map]
DANA:
They have their shield up. Very smart. It essentially takes Druitt out of play. Make it clear they cannot teleport until they disable the shield.
CABAL TECHNICIAN:
Do you have a preferred point for initial breach?
DANA:
How about the front door?
Act III[]
EXT. - LONDON, ENGLAND - LONDON SANCTUARY - ESTABLISHING SHOT - NIGHT
[Ashley and her group teleport onto the front porch]
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[Magnus, Druitt, and Declan are standing at the table. Will and Clara are nearby. A monitor shows the group outside the front door.]
DECLAN:
Perimeter cameras show four targets outside the facility.
MAGNUS:
EM shield is active and holding. Initiate countermeasures.
[Will and Clara leave.]
DRUITT:
The front door. They're getting bolder.
DECLAN:
It's 2-inch steel plate. There's no way they're gonna-
[The monitor shows the door collapsing inward.]
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - FRONT HALLWAY
[Ashley and her group come inside. Four defenders with weapons and a large ogre-like abnormal come to meet them. The defenders open fire, but the attackers don't react at first. They fight. Nothing the defenders do is particularly effective. Ashley and her gang make short work of them.]
INT. - CABAL MONITORING ROOM
CABAL TECHNICIAN:
Initial defenses breached. They're beginning their sweep now.
DANA:
Priority targets are Magnus, Druitt, Tesla, Clara Griffin, and MacRae. Oh, and Zimmerman if he gets in the way. Proceed to the databanks on foot until we can disengage the EM shield.
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY
[Ashley opens the doors to the library, two of her group behind her. Druitt is waiting with a pair of swords held ready.]
DRUITT:
Stand down, Ashley.
[Ashley extends her claws and all three attack. Druitt disables the other two. Ashley gets in a good swipe with her claws. When she moves in to press her advantage, Druitt stabs clear through her abdomen. Ashley makes eye contact with Druitt and for a moment, her eyes turn blue. Then they turn red again. Druitt withdraws his sword and Ashley falls to the ground with a cry of pain. Druitt backs slowly out the door as Ashley and the other two get slowly to their feet. Druitt turns and runs down the hall. Ashley and the other two pause once outside the door and look at each other, then split up. Two follow Druitt and one breaks off to go another way.]
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[Magnus and Declan are watching the fight on the monitor.]
DECLAN:
They aren't talking to each other, but they're operating in sync.
MAGNUS:
Telepathic communication.
DECLAN:
They'll head to the main databanks in the central lab, send their data burst from there. Then they'll target me.
MAGNUS:
I'm not quite ready to surrender yet, Declan. We stick to the plan. [into radio] Nikola, how long?
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - TESLA'S LAB
[Nikola is working on the wiring of the weapon]
TESLA:
[into radio] Almost there. Stop bugging me.
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY
[The lone attacker who had split off from Ashley's group comes around a corner and stops when he sees Will standing midway down the hallway. Will is holding a paintball gun, standing next to a knee-high box.]
WILL:
Tag! You're it.
[Will shoots the attacker with a paintball. The attacker hesitates for a step, but then continues. Will reaches down and opens the box. A shiny brown liquid slithers out of it, crawling down the hallway towards the attacker. It crawls up his legs. It covers him completely as he falls to the floor, hardening into a shell.]
WILL:
Now that's what I'm talking about.
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - BASEMENT HALLWAY
[Druitt comes running through a doorway. A second behind him is Ashley and her partner. They suddenly stop and look back the way they came, then at each other. Ashley's partner runs back the other way and Ashley continues after Druitt.]
INT. - CABAL MONITORING ROOM
[Dana is watching the operative return to help the one that Will trapped.]
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY
[The second operative returns and approaches the one encased in the now-hardened liquid. He punches it and it shatters. The first operative stands up and both turn to face Will.]
WILL:
That's not cool.
[Will turns and runs. The operatives follow.]
INT. - LONDON SANCTAURY - LOWER LEVEL - TESLA'S LABORATORY
[Tesla finishes the weapon and picks it up just as Magnus and Declan come in.]
TESLA:
How goes the home-invasion?
MAGNUS:
Not as well as we'd hoped. We're moving to Plan B, which means I need the weapon right now.
[Tesla hands it to Magnus.]
TESLA:
Just finished powering it up. But you should know it's hardly my best work.
MAGNUS:
It'll have to do. It's time you got into the fray.
[Magnus leaves with the weapon. Tesla picks up his jacket and follows her out.]
INT. - CABAL MONITORING ROOM
[Dana is watching Will be chased.]
CABAL TECHNICIAN:
Ashley's approaching the computer core now.
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - COMPUTER CORE
[Ashley runs up to a computer bank and attaches an electronic device. It begins cycling through five-digit numbers. She looks down the hallway and sees Tesla has arrived.]
TESLA:
[vampire voice] Your mother would be so disappointed.
[Ashley hisses at him]
TESLA:
[raising an eye] Am I supposed to be impressed?
[Tesla reaches over and rips a large electrical cable out of the wall. Sparks fly and the sprinkler system turns on. Tesla directs the electricity at Ashley. Ashley grunts in pain but keeps advancing on Tesla.]
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY
[Will comes running around the corner with the two operatives not far behind. The security door drops between him and the operatives. Will turns around to see Clara standing naked next to the controls.]
CLARA:
Are you okay?
[Will hugs Clara]
WILL:
You're kidding, right? [into radio] Magnus, Operation Exxon Valdez is a bust.
MAGNUS:
[over radio] Can you draw them into the main lab?
WILL:
[into radio] Oh yeah, that shouldn't be a problem. Seeing as they're trying to kill me an all.
MAGNUS:
[over radio] Don't take it personally.
[Will lowers the radio]'
CLARA:
Okay. Get going. I'll give you a head start.
WILL:
You stay out of sight, okay? Meet me in the main lab.
[They kiss, then Will runs off and Clara turns to let the operatives through the door. They run past her and pause at the corner. One continues after Will. The other turns around to face where Clara is standing invisibly by the controls. The operative starts to walk towards Clara.]
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - COMPUTER CORE
[Tesla and Ashley are still fighting with electricity. Ashley is half snarling half screaming from the pain while Tesla just snarls animalitically at her while holding her at bay. The electricity isn't slowing Ashley down much anymore as she advances at Tesla.]
TESLA:
Okay, I'm impressed.
[Tesla drops the electrical cable and retreats past a security doorway to a control panel. He closes the security door while Ashley is still on the other side of it.]
INT. - CABAL MONITORING ROOM
[Dana is watching the monitors.]
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[Tesla and Will come through the main door.]
WILL:
Two of them on their way.
TESLA:
Okay! It's officially a party now.
DRUITT:
Ashley?
TESLA:
She'll be right along, despite my best efforts.
[Magnus sighs in relief from a catwalk next to Druitt. Magnus is aiming the weapon at the main door. Declan and two others are standing next to a side entrance.]
DECLAN:
C'mon!
[Will and Tesla run out the side entrance with Declan and the others. Magnus crouches in preparation to fire the weapon. Ashley and two others come into the room and slow.]
MAGNUS:
[quietly] Sorry, Ashley.
[Ashley and gang look up and see Magnus and Druitt. They begin walking towards Magnus as Magnus fires the weapon. All three of them crumple to the ground.]
INT. - CABAL MONITORING ROOM
[Dana and the technician react in shock as they watch the three operatives fall. The technician begins checking monitors.]
CABAL TECHNICIAN:
Uh, they're down.
DANA:
Life signs?
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[Declan and his men have the unconscious attackers surrounded. Declan stands up from checking for a pulse and walks toward Magnus as she comes down from the catwalk.]
DECLAN:
They're still alive.
[Magnus continues walking over to where Will and Tesla are standing next to the wall. Druitt follows her.]
MAGNUS:
Good work, Nikola.
TESLA:
Believe me, I'm moderately shocked right now.
MAGNUS:
[to Declan] Quickly, get them into secure cells.
[As Declan is walking back towards the unconscious attackers, Ashley wakes up and kicks one of Declan's men down. All three of them get up.]
DECLAN:
Fall back!
[Will and Tesla begin retreating. Magnus and Druitt stand their ground.]
MAGNUS:
Ashley!
[Ashley's eyes change to blue for a moment, but then they're back to red and Ashley advances on Magnus. Magnus shoots them again and runs while they fall to their knees. They run out of the lab into the hallway.]
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - BASEMENT HALLWAY
[The group keeps running past Declan
DECLAN:
C'mon, c'mon!
DRUITT:
So much for plans A to E.
MAGNUS:
We barely slowed them down!
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[Ashley and the other two get to their feet and run to the door that Magnus and the others retreated through and begin pounding on it.]
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - BASEMENT HALLWAY
[Will stops at a cross-passage as the others keep running.]
WILL:
Clara!
[Will takes off down the other hallway.]
MAGNUS:
Will! Damn it!
[Magnus pushes the button to close the door to the hallway that Will ran down.]
DECLAN:
Fire-suppression protocols have been deactivated for the main lab. Now they are locked in.
[Magnus turns to face Druitt and Tesla, who know what she is about to do and understand.]
MAGNUS:
[long pause] Release the elemental.
[Group turns to watch the monitor of the three people in the lab. A door opens and what looks like a cloud of fire roles in as the fire elemental comes into the room.]
MAGNUS:
The EM shield should keep them from teleporting.
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[Ashley and the other two are pounding on the exit with their fists as the cloud of fire reaches them. They don't falter at the sight of the elemental and return to ponding on the door like its not even there has it engulfs them]
INT. - CABAL MONITORING ROOM
[Dana is watching the scene in the main lab with a horrified expression.]
TECHNICIAN:
They're under attack!
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - BASEMENT HALLWAY
[Magnus and the others are watching their monitor with expressions of fear and horror.]'
MAGNUS:
Dear God.
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[The operatives are still pounding on the doors, though almost all of their skin is blackened.]
INT. - CABAL MONITORING ROOM
TECHNICIAN:
Damage levels are increasing. We're losing epidermal viability.
DANA:
How about the EM shield?
TECHNICIAN:
Still up. Our jamming device still hasn't cracked the code.
DANA:
[heavy sigh] Abort. Get them out of there.
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[Magnus and the others walk into the lab. There are piles of charred wood from the ceiling rafters and a few fires still burning in the background.]
DRUITT:
There were only three of them in here.
MAGNUS:
The fourth one must've broken them out.
DECLAN:
We held the line. That was the objective.
TESLA:
Though Churchill may have been wrong. Victory at any cost?
WILL:
[over radio] Magnus!
INT. - LONDON SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY
[Clara's body is in the same hallway where Will spoke to her last. Will is draping a curtain over her as Magnus, Druitt and Declan come running around the corner. Magnus crouches down next to Clara and looks at Will with tears in her eyes.]
MAGNUS:
[A look of horror and guilt on her face] Will, I'm so sorry.
WILL:
[Looks up at her his face a mixture of grief and anger directed solely at Magnus] She wasn't supposed to be here. She wasn't supposed to have any part of this.
DRUITT:
What now?
MAGNUS:
We defend our home.
Act IV[]
EXT. - OLD CITY - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ESTABLISHING SHOT - NIGHT
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - BIGFOOT'S ISOLATION ROOM
[Henry watches Bigfoot through the window. Bigfoot is tossing and groaning on the bed. Henry walks away.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY
[Will is sitting alone on the sofa in the hallway, crying.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - INFIRMARY
[Magnus drops a handcuff key on Kate's lap]
MAGNUS:
Goodbye, Ms. Freelander. You're free to go.
[Kate picks up the key and releases her wrist.]
KATE:
I heard about London.
MAGNUS:
I recommend you get yourself to one of the safe houses. Things are going to get very un-sanctuary-like around here.
KATE:
Look, I can see why you don't trust me. But let's face it, you could use me in this fight!
MAGNUS:
I know your type. Greedy, self-interested. I doubt you even know the meaning of the word loyalty. We both know when things get rough, you'll simply disappear.
KATE:
If I was gonna disappear, that was days ago.
MAGNUS:
Or you're biding your time to see who wins this war, and you'll offer your services to the winner. Either way, I want you gone.
[Magnus turns and walks away.]
INT. - - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - HENRY'S ARRAY
[Henry is sitting at his computer when Magnus walks up.]
HENRY:
Hey, Doc. EM shield's at max power on a rotating frequency, the perimeter defenses are set to long-range and I brought a change of underwear for the night shift.
MAGNUS:
Have all the residents been evacuated?
HENRY:
Yeah, everyone's been moved to secure, off-site locations. Even the SHU's empty now, which feels crazy.
MAGNUS:
I know.
HENRY:
Uh, better news. Looks like we've broken the pattern. 23 hours, still no sign of the super Ashley gang. [awkward pause] God, I'm sorry. It's a coping mechanism.
MAGNUS:
It's fine.
HENRY:
You know, a lot of the residents wanted to stay and fight.
MAGNUS:
Told you. I won't see any more abnormals hurt or killed by this war.
HENRY:
I know. Just saying this is their home, too.
MAGNUS:
I understand this has been rough on all of us. And I haven't been available much, to you or anyone. Has he spoke to you?
HENRY:
He won't let us move him and he still won't take the treatment. He's falling apart in there. It's like he wants to die, so...
MAGNUS:
I'll talk to him.
[Magnus sets her hand on Henry's shoulder for a moment as she starts to walk away.]
HENRY:
Hey Doc?
[Magnus stops and faces Henry]
HENRY:
You're doing what you have to. We've got your back.
MAGNUS:
Thank you, Henry.
[Magnus turns and leaves.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - BIGFOOT'S ISOLATION ROOM
[Magnus is sitting on the bed next to Bigfoot. She brushes hair out of his face.]
MAGNUS:
You've looked better. The others may question your choices, your beliefs. I don't. We've known each other too long. We've always understood the need for space, freedom to live as we want. It's the very thing that defines us. Once we let go of who we are, what we believe to be true, who the hell are we, for God's sake? Chattel for the fates like everyone else. I've always held that despite how complex this world is, compromise is for the weak. And the cost of that weakness is too high a price, no matter how dire the circumstances. Truth is, I've been wrong all along.
[Magnus reaches across and sets a syringe of the antidote next to Bigfoot where he can reach it.]
MAGNUS:
I won't be visiting you again.
[Magnus stands up and walks out of the room, leaving the door open behind her.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - TESLA'S LAB
[Tesla is writing on a blackboard as Magnus comes in.]
TESLA:
I know, I know, I know, the spectrum settings were totally off. I'll fix it.
MAGNUS:
Nikola, did I ever tell you why my father founded this Sanctuary Network all those decades ago?
TESLA:
Because he was a crappy doctor?
MAGNUS:
Because there was a need. A multitude of beings lost, in need of help. The Sanctuary facility was founded more out of necessity than for science. We protect the two dominant species of life from one another: Humans and abnormals. It's a fragile balance that cannot be compromised. If we fail, fear and chaos would reign, and the Cabal would win. [pause] You knew the weapon wouldn't work.
TESLA:
[gets defensive] Helen-
MAGNUS:
I asked you to make something that would only disable Ashley, not kill her. I realize now that was an impossible task.
TESLA:
[Looks at Magnus and this is one of those rare times he wishes he wasn't right] Quite impossible.
[Magnus hands Tesla a vial of blood.]
MAGNUS:
This is Ashley's. Before she was changed.
TESLA:
You realize if I do this, the weapon will be completely effective. I mean completely.
[Magnus says nothing as she turns and walks away. Tesla begins working.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[Henry pushes the switch to lock down the security doors in the Main lab.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY
[Will lifts up a statue's head to hit the security switch to lock down the window shutters]
EXT. - OLD CITY - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - NIGHT
[All of the windows go dark as security shutters lower over them. Magnus is sitting on top of one of the towers with the weapon in her lap. Will steps up onto the wall beside her.]
WILL:
Once more into the breach, dear friends.
MAGNUS:
Once more, or close up the wall with our English dead.
WILL:
[sitting] Or we could all just run away.
MAGNUS:
If only we were that smart.
[Will looks at the weapon in Magnus's lap.]
WILL:
So that's it?
MAGNUS:
Nikola promises me it's his finest work.
WILL:
I'm sure it is. Maybe somebody else should use it.
MAGNUS:
It has to be me and we both know it.
WILL:
Magnus, she's not Ashley anymore. I know that's difficult for you to accept, but you-
MAGNUS:
You should leave while you still can, Will. You've done more than your share.
WILL:
Yeah, I should. [Will's phone starts to ring] But like you said, I'm just not that smart. [into phone] This is Will.
[Will's phone emits the sound of electronic static. Will holds it away from his ear in pain. Magnus snatches the phone from his hand and chucks it off the roof.]
MAGNUS:
Bloody hell!
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - HENRY'S ARRAY
[There's a blip on one of Henry's computer screens]
HENRY:
What the hell?
[Henry's computers go crazy and Henry leans forward to type.]
HENRY:
Oh, c'mon! No way! [into radio] Uh, Magnus, we've been hit by a remote hack. I've lost links to all external networks. It looks like it piggy-backed on a cell signal.
EXT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ROOF - NIGHT
MAGNUS:
[into radio] What about the EM shield?
[Magnus and Will stand up and head back inside.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - HENRY'S ARRAY
HENRY:
Yeah, it's still up.
[Henry's computer screens go black and an alarm starts sounding.]
HENRY:
No, no no no no! [into radio] We just lost it.
[Ashley and two others teleport into the main lab next to Henry's array. Henry hears it and peaks around the corner before pressing back against the wall.]
HENRY:
Which means we're hooped.
Act V[]
[Ashley and the other two walk past Henry's array, pausing to look for Henry but they don't see him because he has crawled under one of the tables. They continue on and Henry ventures out.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - BIGFOOT'S ISOLATION ROOM
HENRY:
[over PA system] Ashley and two friends just appeared in the main lab and sensors indicate three more in the residential level.
[Bigfoot looks down at the syringe that Magnus had left behind for him.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - MAGNUS'S STUDY - NIGHT
[Magnus is looking down at one of the wires on the weapon when one of the attackers teleports into her office. She brings the weapon up to bear as a second teleports in, then swings it around to the middle when Ashley appears.]
MAGNUS:
Ashley, please, for the love of God-
[One of the attackers teleports directly next to Magnus. She dodges to the side, brings the weapon up, and fires. He falls and the other two teleport away.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - HALLWAY
[Druitt and Tesla walk around the corner]
TESLA:
You think it'll go better this time?
DRUITT:
Where's your courage, dear boy? We'll be fine.
TESLA:
I'm not British. All that tally-ho crap doesn't work on me.
[Both pause as they come around the corner to see three of the attackers materialize in front of them. They exchange a glance and small grins as they move in to start the fight. They manage to land a couple of good blows before one of them teleports away with Druitt.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - BASEMENT
MAGNUS:
[over radio] Henry, what happened?
HENRY:
[into radio] Uh, someone slid a virus past our jamming countermeasures, targeted all of our primary defensive systems.
MAGNUS:
[over radio] Can you get the shield back up?
HENRY:
[into radio] Yeah, that's exactly what I'm trying to do, but I need to get to the mainframe array to do an override. It's gonna be kind of a slow bitch without my remote tablet, which I left in my room.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - ELEVATOR
WILL:
[into radio] Henry, it's Will. I'm headed your way. I'll grab your stuff and meet you at the mainframe.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - BASEMENT
HENRY:
Awesome. Listen, watch yourself, okay?
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - ELEVATOR
WILL:
[into radio] All right.
[Elevator stops and doors open to reveal two of the attackers. Will draws his gun just as Bigfoot hits them from the side. They teleport away as Will comes out of the elevator.
BIGFOOT:
Sorry I'm late.
WILL:
Big Guy? C'mon, get in here before they kill you.
[Bigfoot gets in the elevator with Will. Will claps Bigfoot on the shoulder.]
WILL:
It's good to see you, man.
[Bigfoot claps Will affectionately on the side of the face and Will staggers.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - BASEMENT
[Henry is creeping along when one of the attackers teleports in front of him. Tesla jumps out behind her and electrocutes her with current from one of the computers.]
TESLA:
[to Henry] Run!
[Henry takes off running as the attacker turns to fight Tesla. She grabs a straight tube and stabs him through the chest. Tesla falls back against the wall. Tesla pulls the tube from his chest and looks at it.]
TESLA:
I hate you guys.
[Tesla stands up and starts to charge at the operative when the operative is blown away. Tesla looks over and sees Magnus with the new weapon.]
TESLA:
Nice.
[Ashley teleports in. Magnus aims at her and hesitates. Ashley teleports away again.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - FOYER
[Druitt and one of the attackers teleport in, fighting. They fight for a bit and then teleport away again.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - BASEMENT
[Bigfoot, Henry and Will run around the corner. Henry runs up to a computer terminal to access the Sanctuary defenses.]
HENRY:
Aw, damage is bad. I gotta defrag half the commands in here.
WILL:
Yeah, well, you know, take your time.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[Magnus is crossing the room with the weapon held ready. One of the attackers teleports in and Magnus shoots him before he can attack. Ashley teleports in.]
MAGNUS:
Ashley. Listen to me. Please. I don't want to do this. You don't want to do this.
[Ashley teleports close to Magnus. Magnus raises the weapon and Ashley teleports to behind Magnus. As Magnus turns to face her, Ashley swipes at Magnus, knocking her down. Magnus cries out in pain as she lands and brings the weapon up to aim at Ashley.]
MAGNUS:
Ashley!
[Ashley pauses and appears to listen dispassionately, eyes still red.]
MAGNUS:
Do you remember when you were small? You used to come into my room in the middle of the night. You'd crawl into my arms and you'd say, "Mummy, I'm afraid." [Magnus sets the weapon aside, crying.] Ashley, I'm afraid.
[Ashley glares and pulls back to strike at Magnus.]
KATE:
Hey, Blondie!
[Ashley looks up to see Kate standing across the room with a rocket launcher on her shoulder. Kate fires and the RPG hits Ashley squarely. Ashley is knocked off-screen and presumably blown up. Magnus flinches away and covers her head with her arms for a moment as flaming debris falls around her.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - UPPER LEVEL - MAIN LIBRARY
[Druitt and the attacker he's fighting teleport in. They continue exchanging blows for a minute before the attacker teleports away.]
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - BASEMENT
[Henry is working on the computer, Will is watching down one direction for attackers and Bigfoot is watching the other way. Bigfoot growls as the attacker who had been fighting Druitt walks around the corner. Will moves to join Bigfoot.]
WILL:
Henry!
HENRY:
I know.
WILL:
Get that shield up!
[Bigfoot starts punching the attacker.]
WILL:
Seriously! Any time!
[The attacker teleports behind Bigfoot and knocks him down, then turns to face Will. Will shoots him several times and continues firing as the attacker advances on him. Henry's computer beeps.]
HENRY:
We're good!
[The attacker tries to teleport again and disintegrates.]
HENRY:
[into radio] Magnus! Druitt! EM shield's active again.
INT. - OLD CITY SANCTUARY - LOWER LEVEL - MAIN LAB
[Magnus is still on the ground where Ashley knocked her down.]
HENRY:
[over radio] Anyone teleporting now will be vaporized.
[Kate hobbles over to her and drags Magnus to her feet.]
KATE:
We have got to move!
[Another attacker comes running in, grabbing Kate and kicking her several times before dropping her on the floor. The attacker grabs Magnus and raises her hand to strike. The attacker's hand is caught by Ashley as Magnus falls to the ground. Ashley looks over at Magnus and her eyes are blue and she's starting to tear up.]
MAGNUS:
[tearful] Ashley, please...
ASHLEY:
Mom?
[Ashley gets a determined look on her face as she teleports away with the last attacker. They disintegrate just like the other one had done. Magnus stays on the ground and cries.]
