This article page is about abnormals in Sanctuary. For category page, see Category:Abnormals.

Abnormal or Abnormals are the terms used to describe the various creatures and beings on Sanctuary. Most of them are believed to be natural mutations, although some have been created on purpose.

Many abnormals have been influential to human history, although most of the world is unaware of this fact; the ancient vampire civilization was responsible for many advances in science and technology. Important historical figures such as Nikola Tesla and U.S. president Warren G. Harding were actually abnormals.

Note: Abnormals are grouped via their first appearance / mention.

Bigfoot reminds Henry that that lotus elk eat seroslug and offers (to put the Kitapholus drocena in) the cryo-lab instead. Henry declines the move as he had hoped to put the northern halcylops in the cryo-lab instead, as it's the only room that can go to minus 30 degrees. Henry then suggests (to put the Kitapholus drocena where) the pradophili (are) and Bigfoot seemed to agree.

Father Clark stole a shipment of cypher beetles that was being transported by Angelo to the the Old City Sanctuary and infected them with Tichus barbarellus. Clark's plan was to release a swarm of the infected beetles on a group of abnormals at Nathaniel Jensen's vigil, and when bitten would become infected with Tichus barbarellus and subsequently cause them to go crazy which would incite anti-abnormal sentiments in the local community. A predatory trachnoid or simply trachnoid is a large insectoid abnormal that lives in the tunnels of Hollow Earth. They camouflage themselves to blend into their environment. If their territory/hive is compromised/invaded, they will seek safer spaces.

When Kanaan initiated seismic activity to create a tidal wave to counter the tidal wave Kali caused in retribution for being attacked by Terrance Wexford [2] [3], the resulting tremors forced the trachnoids further underground to the edge of the mantle layer where Kanaan lives. Feeling threatened, a trachnoid queen sought out an organic host to take refuge in; burrowing into Kanaan's skin near one of his arteries which caused Kanaan to become sick, showing signs of renal failure. With Kanaan too ill to create levees that would relieve the building magma pressure, the resulting magma build up was causing more earthquakes; earthquakes that would eventually lead to the complete destruction of Hollow Earth and the eruptions of three massive dormant volcanic calderas on the surface. However, Helen Magnus (accompanied by Ranna Seneschal) was able to surgically remove the trachnoid from Kanaan (immediately disposing of it by throwing it swiftly into the nearby magma), and once treated, Kanaan quickly afterward began digging new tunnels to relieve the magma pressure.
